Only just realised that Alisson only made his Serie A debut at Roma last season.

Presumed with all the hype and the fee that he'd been a stalwart for at least a few years.

Very high save percentage, admittedly. Again, I've no idea what to expect really.

Am I the only one who doesn't think based on his World Cup performances he is so special ? Clearly a good keeper but 67 million is a terrible lot of money. I would expect him to be clearly the best in the world for that money and I don't think he is. There are at least three keepers in the PL that are better.

Liverpool signing a top goalkeeper is the equivalent of us signing a top creative CM.

I'm not jealous of Liverpool and their signings though. Instead focusing on all our ability within our club.

They may, or may not be stronger after the window. Couldn't give a flying barrell of Monkey jizz, certainly not to the point I'm already conceding that they're superior to us this season before a ball has even been kicked.

Much rather wait and see what little gems we bring in this window.

Chelsea had some decent players in their team last season. Heard their goalkeeper was pretty good.

Wonder who they'll get in the Champions league this season. ...Exactly.

Be quite funny if Alisson keeps heaps of clean sheets but Salah can't produce this season.

That's the thing, whilst we can all agree or disagree on what we consider good or bad signings, with so many factors to consider in football, I just don't feel the need to go into meltdown everytime a competitor signs a half decent talent.

They might of improved their chances of over-hauling us through signings. Nothing more.

Heck, Alisson could break his arm first game, Salah goal drought. Kane could actually start banging the goals in from get go.

Whatever happens...Spurs will be ready. Bring it.

I think Alisson is certainly not worth 66 mil. But, he is a quality keeper and a big upgrade for Liverpool. I also don't think one should judge players on the WC, it's a very dangerous road to go down. There were a number of very underwhelming performances from big players. Liverpool do look like they are fixing what is broken which is my worry. Even a slightly better keeper could make a huge difference for them so 66 mil could be a good deal for them.

I appreciate all that, but if so, why bother reading the Liverpool thread?

Keita, Fabinho and Allison are all quality players, if they'll add Fekir on top of that I'll admit I'll be impressed. On the other hand, the greater the expenditure, the greater the expectations. Liverpool looked like a shadow of themselves when Salah didn't play. As far as I'm concerned he's still a one-season-wonder until he proves otherwise.

I'm not sure what is going on over there but it looks to me like they are trying to mount a serious title challenge and take the last leap towards being among the real elite clubs in Europe. Kudos to them I guess. If it's one thing I've learned after following Spurs religiously over the last 20 years it's that worrying about what other clubs do and doesn't do isn't worth the time and effort.

To remind myself that I am of Sane mind.

...not forgetting the thread title mentioned 'laugh'...thought there might have been a bit of light hearted humour available.

Alas...my bad. Sorry...I'll feck off now. (y)

Don’t think it’s the signings or Liverpool that anyones particularly jealous off.. to me it’s the way they’ve conducted business. Early, efficiently and a board willing to pay whatever it takes to back a manager.. we have only sold a youth team player and there’s what 22/23 days left in a window our manager publicly stated we need to be brave. Still time but our pre season tour starts this weekend and we need signings.

Pray for levy

Didn't mean to be confrontational, just seemed weird to be in here if your attitude was 'focus on Spurs and no one else'.

Fair play about the thread title.

Didn't come across confrontational at all my good fellow. I'm not really one for arguments, far too many more important things going on in the World.

My initial response was nothing more than me having a 'larf

Like I say, I can go as far as discussing other clubs business. But it does irk me when season on season some proclaim we're doomed before a ball has been kicked because player X, Y or Z has been signed by another.

Still, each to their own I guess.

Fair - but with 3 weeks of the window left have Liverpool massively upgraded on the weakest part of their team with an available elite keeper - quite clearly yes IMO

Don't understand all these posts about whether Alisson is 'worth' the fee agreed.
Liverpool have the money to spend. GK has clearly been a massive problem position for them since Pepe Reina.
If Liverpool win the Premier League, no-one will bat an eyelid over the £66m spent.
If he turns out to be worse than Karius, everyone will say the money spent was insane.

All subjective and changes all the time. I don't think Liverpool fans care how much was spent if he improves their team.

[The reason why most Spurs fan feel frustrated with the money spent on Sissoko, given he hasn't improved our first XI.]

Just 2 years ago we had better starting eleven plus reserves in almost every position.
Now they have better players in every department except defence imo.
It doesnt matter if Allison, VdV, etc are worth the inflated prices, Liverpool are getting the job done - buying top players they actually need and will improve their starting 11, not squad players who are yet tо prove themselves at top level.
Meanwhile at Spurs, we need to sell 3-4 players and to replace them with adequate ones in 3 weeks. :)

Liverpool conduct their business well. There's a lot of money whirling around the PL. This year they have sold one player for a British record, and brought in decent players early. But, generally at high transfer costs and, according to ITK, by paying substantial agent fees.

Now, I know they have improved their main stand recently, but we have built possibly the best training ground in the UK and are completing a near 1 billion pound stadium project. Unfortunately, we cannot currently compete with how they conduct transfer business. One day we may conduct transfer business similarly, but for now I don't think you should worry about it. We are playing the long game here and, it seems our fans panic every pre-season.

How we have managed to consistently finish above Liverpool after their amazing transfer business every year I don't know.

Liverpool fans really are deluded, im having a "discussion" with two of them. I suggest that they are significantly overspending on a keeper and seem to be going out to "buy" the PL this summer. Of course this does not go down well, they suggest that its because of teams like Barca, RM, PSG and City who have set the market fees for players. I then reply with the fact they have spent the record for a CD and GK, but no, according to them, its the strikers that set the market value and it all trickles down for them. They then go on to say they are the only team to turn a profit in the top 6 so should be admired. Oh and also apparently Klopp is excellent at spending what he needs to get exactly the right players.

I do wonder how long they will be spending the cash from Coutinho, because it seems to most liverpool fans they sold him for 500 mil.

Anyone else find it funny that Liverpool are offering circa 70m trying to sign a goalkeeper that they scored 7 goals in 2 matches against last season?

Would it be funny if Liverpool signed a Hugo Lloris? Cos I’m pretty sure Liverpool have banged a fair few goals past him too over the years

Or if they had signed Jordan Pickford after he let in nearly 70 goals for Sunderland

Clearly it’s not just down to the keeper how many goals are let in - especially over a sample size of 2 games!

17 clean sheets in Seria A though, personally I think its good investment for 25yo GK.

Nah, it is pretty funny tbh.
