Anyone else find it funny that Liverpool are offering circa 70m trying to sign a goalkeeper that they scored 7 goals in 2 matches against last season?

Would it be funny if Liverpool signed a Hugo Lloris? Cos I’m pretty sure Liverpool have banged a fair few goals past him too over the years

Clearly it’s not just down to the keeper how many goals are let in - especially over a sample size of 2 games!

Yeah...but Lovren.

People can point at the prices Liverpool have had to pay to get their targets but they've got them and they have got them in early. Something we just seem to find SOOO difficult.
Keita, Fabinho & Allison are all 1st team upgrades for them.

When was the last time we upgraded our 1st XI?
D.Sanchez is the only recent arguable one and it is starting to look like he is more a replacement for Toby. So therefore not really an upgrade.

Poch's ability to improve & get the best out of players is what is allowing us to keep up with the others around us. But it can only go so far.
There is some time left in the window but im losing confidence in the transfer strategy by the day.

Interesting, this has fuck all to do with laughing at Liverpool tbh though.

But it gets them the player they want? Would you rather our strategy of going for cheaper alternatives because we won't pay up for our number 1 targets?

Our strategy has seen us finish above them consistently for the last 9 years.

I'm not laughing at Liverpool right now. I think £66m for Alisson is ridiciulous, but their 2018 turnover was £364m with £208m in wages. Meanwhile Spurs made £306m with player wages of £127m. Our net profit was £58m versus their £40m.

So the question is, where is the money? How is it that Liverpool can purchased the players they need, and Spurs are left bickering over £20m for Jack Grealish?

I know that we've finished above them for 8 out of the last 9 seasons, but they're clearly headed in the right direction, whereas it feels like we've stagnated the last 3 seasons.

Probably the wrong thread for you then ...

Not to get too sidetracked, but as a supporter, I am not impressed with a club making a big profit - that is money that could have been invested in the club...

Forget profit, player amortisation scews it so it is almost meaningless in real terms. The money is reinvested.

CL Final was a bigger accomplishment than Top 4.
Honestly, I think the only things people remember about the CL final are two Karius howlers. Bale obviously had a couple of nice goals, but I bet more people remember Karius than Bale...

Liverpool are doing big things, no doubt. But, lets see how the season plays out before we hand them the league and CL trophies.

It has, but the only reason that happened last year was because they switched off as soon as they reached the CL final.

Our strategy has clearly been successful thus far, but I fear we are approaching the point of diminishing returns with our approach and rightly or wrongly we need invest in real quality ( whilst retaining our key players) in order not to be left behind by the likes of Liverpool who don’t fuck about when it comes to signing players in areas in which they are weak.

They seem to suddenly be heading for a Man City type net spend with nothing to underpin it and a new stadium somewhere in the pipeline. This is either a BIG roll of the dice or their board have gone Klopp crazy.

Just looked at Liverpool's transfers since last summer:

17/18 (includes Coutinho sale, but not Keita buy): Total incoming: €168M; Total outgoing: €175M; Net Spend: €(7M)

18/19 (assuming Alisson at €75) Total incoming: €200M; Total outgoing: €0; Net Spend €200M

That just looks like a major sale still waiting to happen - even if you assume Liverpool can afford €50M/season in net spend.

They were negative net spend in 16/17 by about 15million too.
