The way the BBC and Sky are going on you'd think this Alison lass was the greatest player to have ever played the game , the reality is he was playing second fiddle to szczesny up until a year ago and represents a huge risk

That’s actually astonishing didn’t play a single serie A game. So they’ve spent £67m for a keeper based on one season ?

Maybe not to the level they're doing this season, but I believe they wouldn't be as stagnant as ourselves. I don't believe anymore. Lessons won't be learn't because the board doesn't believe there is a lesson to learn. We'll never be competing at the top table. I'm trying to be OK with that, but it saddens me.

How is a team going from challenging for top four to finishing top three in three consecutive seasons stagnating?

Is there an trophy for any of that? We're a big club, who have far greater means than we utilise. That's stagnation in my eyes.

He has 31 caps, 10 Europa League appearances, 12 Champions League appearances, 37 Serie A games. Plenty there to judge on.

What does that mean?

It means we have the financial clout to actually bring in one or two great players , but we're too conservative with our cash.
Punts on kids can pay dividends, but buying established stars is much more of a sure thing.

I agree that we are a big club. I agree that we could buy more expensive players. The problem is that Man City, Manchester United, Liverpool can spend more money than us. Even if we spent £100m we could still go backwards.

Improvement is not stagnating, it is the opposite of stagnating.

Like you said we finished top 3 for the last 3 seasons. How long will you be happy with that? When does improvement end and stagnation begin?
Would you be happy again for no trophies and a top 3 finish.
For me we need to go balls deep for the prem. No one remembers the losers. We haven't won a thing since 2008.
We need something, and levy has the financial muscle to gamble on winning, but he seems so risk averse that he can't even stand to lose a bit.

Yeah but we might not. It's better to try and fail, than not try at all.

You seem only concerned that we pay a lot of money for players as if that was the only way to measure player quality.

It is. Whether it be contractually, or transfer fees, sometimes both, great players are going to cost a lot.
We can't always nab players on the final year/out of contract of their contracts and expect to succeed. Even then you have pay a massive signing on bonus and wages.
Even Zaha, if Levy hadn't played silly buggers with his contract offer a few years ago, we could have got him for a nominal fee or even free (I forget).
The only way to get good deals on great players is to nab them while they're young and hope the potential turns into gold. What are the odds on that coming to fruition? Must be slim, and no way to truly challenge

After watching 30 minutes of their Blackburn friendly. I can conclude Keita looks good. Fabinho looks bang average. Sturridge was hysterical bad.

Yet Dean Saunders on Talkshite this morning wathched the same game and is convinced they will win the league. Having said that on Monday (?) he did ask what the odds were for West Ham to break into the top 4 as they “have really gone for it” in the transfer window. :)

Yes, but Saunders is an ex-Liverpool player and a Liverpool fan. If you can find a single Liverpool fan that isn't convinced they will win the league at the start of every season, then you'll have found the only one.

And if he really wants to make a bet on West Ham making the top 4, I'll take any amount he wants at any odds he'd like to choose for himself.

Dean Saunders I would doubt can even put his pants on properly in the morning. The guy has a lower iq than bacteria.
