Lol Mourinho was too lazy to develop Lukaku at Chelsea and sold him to Everton when we could all see he should have been being given a chance with their first team.

And now he's established Mourinho splashes obscene amount of money to purchase him for another club.

Mourinho is a lazy check-book manager, it's quite disgraceful really.

It is a bit strange. I remember when Jose first took over Chelsea he gave a good interview on Lampard. Admittedly Lampard was not a youngster by this stage but he was far from the finished article. Mourinho really helped take Lampard from very good player to his best by developing him.

Since the early days at Chelsea he really hasn't bothered with developing players, it has all been about instant gratification. It just doesn't get long-term results.

Not only that. He's incapable of doing anything positive.

I have said it before, it does to a degree depend on the remit you are given and the expectation.
When Jose first arrived at Chelsea, he had a degree of time. Everything was new, owners, manager, money.

Now Jose is considered one of the best managers, someone who wins, no matter what. To that end, the expectaion is with top clubs who hire him, "here are almost unlimited funds, get us trophies."

You are under an entirely different pressure from say Poch. Now back in the Fergie era, you equally had time to develop youth and so forth, but football has lost that to a large degree, by that I mean patience. You see the merry-go-round. Cash rich owners don't care and as a result Mourinho plays the game and is succesful.

Yes he still does some loathsome things, but it's part of his act as a manager. You don't have to like it or him, but in all honesty, is it not actually just a sad reflection of how the game at the top has gone?

We see ourselves as having the right set-up, the right manager, agood mix of financial control and spend. You can argue it is how football should be run, but in our lofty opinions of right and wrong, there is a real risk that we will simply never win anything. I obviously hope we do, but we just might always be a club who gets pipped to the post by one of the juggernauts who frankly, could not give a flying monkey about anything other than the trophy, no matter the cost.

Mourinho has learned to fit in, nothing more and he is not the only one.

Lloris, Trippier, Walker, Jan, Toby, Rose, Wanyama, Dier, Alli, Eriksen and Kane - £67m

Lukaku - £75m
That is just staggering.
That is why I want to stay as far away as I can from the "where's that marquee signing?" brigade. Get em cheap and get em developed. I'll take that any day of the week.

Take out Walker/Trippier and add Dembele and it's £78/80m and still way below the £90m quoted with add-ons. Throw in Carlton Pogba and you could have bought our First XI twice over plus subs and still have money for the party after.

I'm actually not that concerned with United. Things could have been completely different of course.

They've backed themselves into a corner when it comes to transfers and it's quite amusing. Club owner's aren't stupid and have been paying attention. They want the elite players so they have to continuously pay world-record fees - they can only do that for so long, so now they are having to settle for other targets but still pay way over the odds.

They've gone from Griezman to Morata to Lukaku and whilst Lukaku is a proven PL goalscorer I still don't think he's the next level player they have been craving.

It all adds up because Mourinho will become more and more frustrated and demanding of his board - he will always have to settle for 3rd or 4th best option - not what he is used to.

How long before he starts digging Lukaku out because he isn't Griezman?

I actually think Lukaku is very much a Mourinho type striker and will suit how he wants to play.

Didn't look that way when they were both at Chelsea though, did it?

Typical Mourinho fashion though isn't it? He doesn't believe in nurturing players, only wanting the finished article instead of utalizing a diamond in the rough.

True. I think you're right in that respect, but I can still see Mourinho having a whinge at some point about him not doing enough in the bigger games.

They weren't at the club together for long though we're they? And Lukaku wanted first team action which Jose couldn't promise him so he went out on loan and then left.

Put yourself in Mourinho's shoes. When he is hired he is expected to win leagues immediately. Do you take a chance or look for something more of a sure thing?

Mourinho has many faults but I can't blame him for spending money. For the last 14 years he has been the manager at a newly rich Chelsea, Inter when they were much more relevant, Real Madrid, Chelsea again and now United. These are some of the richest clubs in the world if my boss gave me a shit ton of money to play with id damn sure spend it.
