New facility will not harm Spurs in the transfer market.

Daniel Levy insists the construction of new training facilities at Tottenham will not affect their spending power.

Spurs have started work on their state of the art, 67-acre complex at the Bulls Cross site in North London.

The Premier League giants have also revealed plans of late to build a new stadium away from their current home at White Hart Lane, which has been partially funded by the issue of new shares.

While the club's ambition will please supporters, the financial demands required in order to fulfil these promises have raised concerns.

Levy, though, is adamant no money will be taken away from the playing side of the club in order to push through projects away from the field.

"Tottenham is a very big club and as far as this training facility is concerned we arranged the facilities some years ago so it is financed and ring-fenced," he said.

While that means Spurs boss Harry Redknapp will continue to be backed in the transfer market, Levy is hoping the new training complex will help to develop more home-grown stars of the future.

"The most important thing is bringing players through the youth system and to do that you need the right facilities, that is something we haven't had at Spurs Lodge," he said.

"Home-grown players are in the interest of the Premier League and hopefully with our new facilities we will see more players coming through to the first team.

"Every club wants to see players come through rather than buying players from other clubs. That is something we are striving for."

Did I miss something along the way? Wasn't there a plan to redevelop the site at White Hart Lane, building around the existing ground over several yerars?

Daniel Levy has really brought us back to the front of english football, with this new complex we will be able to attract top development players locally and all over the world. Also could sway senior players too.

Levy is a top man he really is making THFC a PL leader off the pitch and we have greatly improved since the days of Francis, Graham and Gross

Taking other threads on board I really cannot see Levy selling the club for pure financial gain, I am certain he is bigger than that.

Francis, Graham and Gross could feel a bit hard done by there - combined, they were a mere fraction of the problems Scholar was - add the fall-out from Sugar and Venables and it's hardly surprising that those three, plus Ardiles, were not a success.

    That's a bloody relief.

Thanks Daniel, I was losing so much sleep worrying about that!

The Levy brigade should tone down the rhetoric. An earlier thread had Levy in the same standing as Bill Nicholson in Tottenham's history. Don't get too carried away. Levy's doing a decent job, as any business/club owner should do.

With the exception of Jol's time, I'm not sure how far we've progressed since Francis, Graham, and Gross. We've won the league cup in the 'Levy era', as did Graham. We've been finishing mid-table, as others have done in the past. Jol managed two fifth places, but we dropped back again, partly because Levy chose to back the suit instead of the football man when it came to footballing matters. He had the sense to dispense with that and hire a new football man.

Take it easy with the praise - he's doing some things well, and the team looks good, but the real giants of today's English footy aren't too worried about us, and we're not all that different in terms of achievement from the teams of our recent history.

I agree... however, on the flip side, those that slag Levy off as ruining the club (primarily for sacking Jol and backing Commoli for so long) are wrong. He is doing a good job; on the financial side, I believe, he is doing an excellent job; on the footballing side, it has been okay but not great. Consequently, in my eyes, he gets a B grade. From what I have seen of the side, over the next season or so, hopefully this grade will become better....

When will the training facility be finished?

I think i heard the 4th quarter of 2013 it will be open!

Lol they've only started to start it this week!!! And this is builders, so they'll say 2010 and mean 2015 ;-)

I really find it shocking that Tottenham Hotspur can't produce enough of it's own Premier League-quality players. Just look at the pool of talent there is to fish in E/NE London, Essex/Herts. All of those schools, amateur football clubs and district and county team players. Annoyingly the Spammers seem to do a much better job of it?!

In fact I remember the Spammer scouts coming round to my junior and senior schools to stage trials every year! True I grew up in more of a Spammer's catchment area, but about 25% of people in that area did actually support Spurs. Plus journey time-wise, we were just as close to Tottenham as we were to Upton Park.

Basically then, our scouts need to do a better job.

You're right...they've been shit for years - if they were any cop at all, then they would have spotted me and i would be playing in front of you all right now - bombing up the right wing, scoring a few goals (but defending poorly) and getting sent off every few weeks for punching the opposition in the kidneys

But alas, they missed me and i am a mere watcher of football now. I think 31 is too old to get a contract with the mighty yids, so i will remember, with fondness, the time when i could have made it...

I think part of the problem when you compare us to West Ham has been our unwillingness to consistently play youngsters. As a club we've always wanted instant success, always demanded more. West Ham (prior to the Icelanders) haven't had as much money to spend so were forced to promote youth early.
I agree their crop of youngsters is bigger & better than ours and they have undoubtedly been more successful with their academy but I have my doubts that we'd have relied on Carrick, Rio, Lampard at an early age.

Well i once scored 36 goals in one (short) school season including 4 hat-tricks and 2 headers (including one diving header). I coulda made it too!

I think that the new chief scout (Broomfield?) is the guy that Harry worked with at both West Ham and then Portsmouth.
