Good player but if he's our Dembele replacement we're fucked, too much pressure on him to fill a position we were already lacking in.

Him alongside someone like Thiago or Kovacic though and we'd be laughing.

“Discreet enquiries” - exactly the sort of on the front foot attempt to sign a player you want to see in the last few weeks of the window

Really good player. home grown. Would compete with Harry Winks for a place in my opinion so the question is do we have space for them both.

Well we definitely should have space for Harry Winks, watched the Madrid win again the other night and the little fella is magic, the pass to Trippier for Dele’s first goal was a thing of beauty! He was keeping Dembele out of the side up until he got injured.

Cook's ceiling is probably similar to Morgan Schneiderlin, who Poch developed at Southampton. Of course MS had that bizarre transfer saga which eventually resulted in big money moves to manure and then to Everton, where he now struggles to get a game.

I think Poch likes CMs who are disciplined and keep a compact formation, blocking opposition passing lines. Schneiderlin talked of how Poch trained him to do this.

But I'm not in favour of spending what would undoubtedly be big money on a young CM of this type, who is still learning his trade and will never be world class. I'd far rather develop our own through the Academy, loans if necessary, and good in-house coaching.

Whereas a CM like Kovacic is absolutely the type we should be after. And if Poch coaches greater defensive awareness into a top talent like Kovacic, then that is real added value.

If Poch could do half of what he did with Dele with Lewis Cook we'd have a cracking player on our hands. Poch doesn't seem to be very interested in the finished article and maybe that's because he feels there's nothing left to mould. If he sees potential I'm all for it, especially since he's home grown and has EPL experience.

Only thing I can think of is if we are going for the less star players, is it because we currently don't have any big egos in the team thinking that they are better than the rest? Look at the England team aslo, remove these players and it's a better squad.

Clutching at straws as would like the top players, but if posh thinks this is the better way, who's to argue!

Not sure I really get this one. I would be really worried if he was our primary CM target, but in theory I would be okay with him if get someone like Kovacic. Saying that, I don't see why Winks couldn't be our back up CM. Unless his injuries are really serious then I would understand. Really Tho, I would hope we have loftier targets for our starting CM. It's such a vital possition and one we really can't get wrong or scrimp on.

I like him and he is a promising talent - home grown too so it makes sense. Not sure he would be ready to be our main man in midfield though.

You've got to wonder whether there'll be a couple of Home Grown transfers OUT over this window and next.

Danny Rose... Trippier?... Alli?...

(I'll stop there!).

We don't have an issue with home grown players needing moved out, we need more in and the non home grown players out, as can't even get all of them registered for classes games.

Signed him on FM mobile and he was a faithful squad player for about 8 years as we swept all before us, before moving to Juventus for 30m. Art imitating life?

Considering how many spurs players were in the England squad plus KWP and Winks I'm not sure why there's such an issue with homegrown quota. We've got multiple youth team players on cusp too.

Are we seriously suggesting we need to aim for homegrown players in this window when we've got worthless squad members like Llorente, Janssen, Sissoko, GKN and Gazzaniga taking up space. Could even move on Aurier and promote KWP.

We're the only top 6 team where our business seems to be influenced by it this year yet we've got much more England internationals, it makes no sense. If you can't sell the dross to free up spaces don't let it influence your targets, just loan them out as they're completely useless to us.

What do you guys think the price is going to be for Cook?

I think it's going to be too high personally

It's a crazy market.

Considering he's under the age of 21, English (home grown) with a full season of Premier League football under his belt AND only just signed a new contract - £30-40m.

I've never actually seen him play much apart from when he played us, so I'm not going to be able to accurately judge him. However, I wonder how many people are in the same boat as me, but judging him solely off the fact that he plays for Bournemouth?

Like others have said though, he just signed a new deal so chances are this is one for future windows.
