Schalke UK news@Schalke_UK tweeted his press conference

"I'd like to start by thanking every 'Schalker' for the great year here. I spent a long time thinking about my decision.

"I'd like to take the chance of fulfilling my childhood dream. Even as a little boy I dreamed of playing in the Premier League.

"I asked myself a lot of questions. What will happen next year? Is it too early?

"Schalke's offer was good. But Spurs are a top club and I'm fulfilling my dream.

"The negotiations with Schalke were initially at a very advanced stage. But then I started thinking about it all again.

"As things stand, I will leave #Schalke in summer. But in football you never know.

"I've always been honest and authentic. #Schalke mean a lot to me. But I also respect other fan opinions.

"I spoke at length to those closest to me about the move and eventually arrived at this decision.

"I spoke to Andre Villas-Boas beforehand and I'm convinced by his ideas.

"I don't play for the money, I want to play football. I've dreamed of playing in the Premier League ever since I was a little boy.

"I don't know what the situation will be in a few years' time and so I'm taking the plunge now!

"I only considered the offers from Schalke and Tottenham!

"Schalke made me a good offer but that's not the point. Spurs are a top club and I'm making my dream come true.

"I'm an emotional player. I identify with Schalke, but I'm seizing my dream!

"It's a bold decision, but so far in my career these decisions have always been the right ones.

"I'll carry on giving my all for Schalke until the very last minute, I won't let up. The fans need to know that.

"The manager and the club were very keen to get me. It's a great place to go."

Well said, son.

It's got to be bloody hard signing for a new club and having to play another few months at your current knowing that the fans may well resent you for wanting to leave. I hope and I believe that their are classier than that but the boy's gotta be feeling the pressure.

Not sure about the "as things stand I'm leaving in the summer" comment. It's signed and sealed as far as I can see.

He does sound like he's saying it's not totally off the table to come in Jan. I think he'd be better to stay, help in the CL this season and get them back in next year.

Then help us knock them out of the CL next season ;)

Like Lorente you mean. Fans are abusing him every time they see him.

Didn't know that. He's better off leaving now if Juve can strike a deal with Bilbao in that case.

Harsh really, considering how he's given the team so much. You've got to be realistic, you can't expect to keep hold of players forever.

Assume you mean July not Jan.

Sounds like a nice enough guy. Obviously he has his own life to live and his decisions will not please everyone, including our fanbase possibly at some point. I think we generally seem to buy good people as well as good players though and that is very wise for a club in our position. We need to maximise every last asset we have as a club and squad and having a citeh situation, saturated with malcontents or chelsea saturated with vipers, would be fatal for us.

The move is subject to a medical, if he get serious injury before the summer then his move can fall through.
That might be what's on his mind as well ..

It seems to me that he is saying that one day he might return?
Probably after a few Prem League, FA Cup & CL winners medals with Spurs and aged about 34?

That was my original thought too. I hope he does well at Spurs, brings in the trophies, but I'd love it if he did return to Schalke one day. I'm in support of him and he has always made it clear he wanted to play in England so I don't think the other Schalke fans are surprised by this. But we'll see how they react on the 18th. Even if he gets booed in the first game, it wont last, we have to get behind the team!

Also, I posted this on the other Holtby forum but I know a lot of people haven't seen him play and want to so....

I've done a Holtby v Hannover video!

A few things to bare in mind:
-First game of the season
-Away at Hannover who hadn't lost 18 times in a row at home before this game
-He's playing in a 4-1-2-1-2 formation (4-4-2 diamond) as the attacking centre midfielder
-You don't really get a sense of how much he chases players down and runs around everywhere on the pitch from this video but if I included all of that then the video would have been twice as long and it would have taken forever!
-I put in everything else he did though, so any mistakes, bad touches, attempted challenges etc
-Look out for how quick his decision making is and keep an eye out on how much he passes to the left (going to link up with Bale well?)
-The second half is much worse quality because I had problems with the file :/ Sorry about that!
-If you don't like the music then mute it :singing:
-If it gets taken down from youtube then I'll put it on another site and let ya know!

Yes, it is signed and sealed, he will be a Spurs player of that there is no doubt. The only question here, is will he arrive in the Summer, or in January. If he moved in this window, I'm sure there would be a fee involved, somewhere along the line. If you have been a Spurs fan for a while, you will know how Daniel works, he would not willingly pay money in January, when if he waits until July 1st he will not have to pay a red cent.

Stranger things have happened, this is football we are talking about after all, but I would be slightly surprised if Holtby arrived during this window.
