So true and Pele was kicked out of the 1966 World Cup by the Portuguese team. Tackles that are not allowed now. I wonder how some of the so called modern day greats would have faired playing against that type of tackling.
Neymar would be too scared to take to the field.

Messi would thrive, La Liga defenders and Ramos in particular put in challenges worthy of the 60s and 70s on him constantly and he's hardly ever injured.

Ronaldo (R9) is the real G.O.A.T.

Even playing now he would bulldoze everyone. So much power and skill. Untouchable.
If you have avatars visible, it's probably no surprise when I say Ronaldo is my favourite player. He is the only person I could ever count as an idol, especially now that I'm way too old to idolise these overpaid, pampered knob-heads. However, whilst I think he is the best out-and-out striker in the history of the game, I would be hard pushed to claim he was the greatest player.

Could have been a different story had he not suffered the injuries and hypothyroidism for his entire career.

Having been lucky enough to see Pele, Maradonna, Cruff, Best, and the modern day Ronaldo and Messi, I believe, if he had stayed fit, the first Ronaldo would have been recognised as the greatest player ever. Such a sad business his career was ruined.

In don't know if you watch La Liga but Messi is, week in week out, kicked all over the park as players think this is the only way to stop him and they're often right, the only thing is, they've got to catch him first which isn't as easy as it sounds because he makes monkeys out of good players more often than not and Ronaldo is no different.

I don't hold with the argument comparing players from different eras either, and the conditions they were used to playing on. For all we know, those players, like Bestie and Greavesie were as good as they were because those pitches were shockingly poor by todays standards.

When Pele was playing, I thought he was the best player I'd ever seen but these days, having watched all the greats since then, I think it's Messi. He is a phenom. The ultimate player for me. Whenever I lose my faith in football which is very often these days, I try to watch him play and he brings a smile to my face. That's all I can say.

Often the case with the very best players:

Zico was on another level despite Souness’ best attempts to stop him. "I wanted to see how he would react to a physical challenge," the combative Scot said later. "But I couldn’t get close enough to him to find out."
