Tom Huddlestone is a fresh injury doubt ahead of Wednesday's trip to Liverpool in the Barclays Premier League.

The midfielder has struggled with a knee problem this week and is unlikely to be fit for the crucial clash at Anfield.

Ledley King has returned to training having sat out Saturday's visit of Hull City, but the defender faces a late fitness test ahead of Liverpool.

However, Jamie O'Hara, back from his loan spell at Portsmouth, is available for selection against Rafa Benitez's side.

Alan Hutton, Aaron Lennon (both groin), Benoit Assou-Ekotto (hip), Jonathan Woodgate (groin) and Carlo Cudicini (wrist/pelvis) remain sidelined.

    Good to see O'Hara back
  2. agill2000
    Gomes
    Corluka Dawson King Bale
    Modric Jenas Palacios Kranjcar
    Defoe Crouch
  3. Locotoro
I think I would go with that line up
  4. Snuzzy
I have a feeling Defoe will start on the bench :(

or worse, Keane on the left eek
  5. jamieee

Why on Earth with Modric, Kranjcar and O'Hara all fit would H.R. start Keane on the left ?.

If we are losing late on in the game maybe having 3 strikers on the field, Keane would play left but thats all.

Even if King is available, breaking up the two center halves who have been critical to keeping clean sheets would be a bad decision. Not only because of the break in continuity, but because of the message it sends. If Dawson and Bassong are fit, they should play.

In midfield, O'Hara is a useful option but Jenas with Palacios and the Croatians on either side is probably a better approach if we want to make inroads on a Liverpool side that lacks creativity.

Up front, it should be Crouch and Defoe, with a word in their ear that they should be hitting the net more than they are. The defence is doing its bit and the prospect of RVN coming in on loan must surely threaten their playing time (RVN's wages and loan status will probably mean he'd start a lot if he joined). Liverpool will be a threat from set pieces, so it makes sense to play Crouch to counteract that as well as being a threat on our own dead-ball situations.

much as I love Ledley, think you are absolutely right. Neither Dawson nor Bassong have done anything to merit being dropped. Maybe sounds negative, but I'd take a 0-0 away to any team in the top 7. Not that I'm suggesting we should park the bus!

i would be fuming to the point of apoplexy if harry dropped bassong for this one- assuming seb is fit

ps that is a slight exaggeration - but only slight :)

Can't say not having Huddlestone play worries me much.
  10. CliffJones
Swap O'H for Jenas, maybe?????????probably, away game, yes.
  11. Kingstheman
Liverpool's defending at set pieces is terrible. Redknapp must surely exploit this in his team briefings and team selection.
  12. davidmatzdorf
King stepped into the defence in one of our recent clean sheets. Made no difference.

He's the best central defender we have. If he's fit, Harry will play him.
  13. billnick
Absolutely right - I'd add though that King is probably the best replacement for Huddlestone we have, too.

yeah, i think that Daws and Seb deserve to start..

I'd like to see O'Hara with Wilson too, had some good games together pre-season IIRC. Although JJ is gonna be ahead of O'Hara for sure.

Crouch and Defoe upfront.. The rest picks itself at the mo.. But would like to see Gio on the bench, he could give their full-backs summat to think about if he came on late, skillfull with a point to prove and at Anfield, who wouldn't wanna take that opportunity?
  15. DC_Boy
king may play - my gripe will be if seb doesn't - or daws for that matter

harry may well do all sorts of things - he's aleady cost us a fair few points by playing keane instead of crouch

i'll wait on the performance to see how harry's choices pan out

Was hoping that Lennon might have been rested for the Hull match in line for the Anfield trip or at least be on the subs bench.

Looks like the same midfield last Saturday. What's crucial here is that Powlacious and Jenas need to get the better of lucas and mascherano then hopefully the Mod and Kranky can do the business. That maybe the key here to get an away win.

With citeh beating manure a result at Anfield is even more crucial.

gutted about lennon. i'd play crouch and keane up front, they have something to prove. I think we need to hit them on the break, saturday showed that. Without lennon it's going to be harder though. We're going to need a performance like we did at the emirates 14 months ago

Mate if you're thinking of the result tonight you'll be pleased to know that was a Carling Cup game!

Result at Anfield would be handy though, just concerned that they'll be their usual annoying selves and pull a result out of nowhere - the bastards!

Whoops . Caught a cold so a bit groggy. Came back to ammend that error ! Relief.
