BBC Live Text
17:33 GOAL- Liverpool 4-0 Tottenham - Jordan Henderson
It's a thrashing, a one-sided procession to the league summit. It's Jordan Henderson bagging Liverpool's fourth, a curled free-kick from the left edge of the penalty area missing everyone and nestling in the bottom corner. There's some confusion over who should claim the goal, but Luis Suarez points to Henderson. If Suarez is not claiming it, it must be Henderson's.
17:18 SUBSTITUTIONS Townsend for Lennon and Dembele for Bentaleb
17:13 GOAL- Liverpool 3-0 Tottenham - Phillipe Coutinho (55 mins)
That's the ball game. Phillipe Coutinho wraps up the points with Liverpool's third and his first at Anfield this season. Again, it's so simple. Jon Flanagan cuts in from the left, feeding Coutinho midway inside the Spurs half. Unchallenged run, low right-foot shot past the dive of Hugo Lloris and nestling low in the far corner. It's a procession to the top of the table.
17:05 YELLOW CARD Gylfi Sigurdsson
HALF TIME Liverpool 2-0 Tottenham
16:32 YELLOW CARD Younes Kaboul
16:24 GOAL- Liverpool 2-0 Tottenham - Luis Suarez
Surely it's already all over? It's a simple as you like for Liverpool, who cut through a Spurs defence still reorganising after that substitution. Long ball forward, flicked on by Daniel Sturridge into the path of Luis Suarez. His jet-heels leave the white shirts behind, finishing across goal from the left of the penalty box. Liverpool are heading to the top of the Premier League, but how many might it be?
16:24 SUBSTITUTION Dawson for Vertonghen (injured)
16:01 GOAL- Liverpool 1-0 Tottenham - Younes Kaboul own goal
You couldn't make it up. Liverpool are ahead in their first attack thanks to a comedy own goal from Younes Kaboul. The hosts get down the right through Glen Johnson and Raheem Sterling. When the ball comes across, Kaboul gets himself into a terrible tangle and can only backheel into his own net. Liverpool take another step towards the top of the Premier League.

Liverpool's growing belief that they can be crowned Premier League champions will be tested once again when Tottenham travel to Anfield on Super Sunday.

Seven successive victories for Brendan Rodgers' side have propelled them to within a point of leaders Chelsea, although Manchester City lurk ominously on their shoulders with the benefit of two games in hand.

But with both of the aforementioned clubs still to visit Anfield this season, Rodgers' men are guaranteed to have a significant say on the final destination of the Premier League trophy.

The Reds' seven-game streak has been achieved in swashbuckling fashion, with 26 goals scored and includes handsome victories over outgoing champions Manchester United and title rivals Arsenal.

Defensive deficiencies remain a concern, however, with three goals shipped against both Swansea and Cardiff and two at Fulham.

Tottenham have targets of their own, although fourth place looks out of reach with north London rivals Arsenal seven points ahead with seven games to go.

Sixth place should be enough to secure Europa League football for Tim Sherwood's side due to Manchester City's Capital One Cup triumph and expected top-four finish, but that may be regarded as a consolation prize given the summer transfer outlay at White Hart Lane.

Spurs have been inconsistent of late, but returned to winning ways last time out against Southampton following back-to-back defeats to London rivals Arsenal and Chelsea.

Tottenham

Tottenham defenders Michael Dawson (hamstring) and Vlad Chiriches (back) returned to training on Tuesday, but only the England international is likely to feature at Anfield.

Sherwood will also be hoping striker Emmanuel Adebayor can shake off the ankle problem that kept him out of Sunday's win over Southampton.

Kyle Walker (pelvis), Etienne Capoue (ankle) and Erik Lamela (back) are still out.

Liverpool
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers will hope to select from an unchanged squad for the visit of Tottenham.

The Reds boss kept faith with the same starting XI from the 6-3 victory against Cardiff last weekend for the 2-1 success against Sunderland in midweek.

Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez will continue their dangerous partnership, with the duo having scored 48 top-flight goals between them - a higher total than 15 Premier League clubs.

Liverpool have no fresh injury concerns for the visit of Tottenham to Anfield.

Winger Raheem Sterling might therefore be forced to sit on the bench for the third consecutive game.

Tottenham's top scorer Emmanuel Adebayor is set to return to the line-up after missing last week's win over Southampton with a cut heel.

Defender Kyle Walker remains sidelined with a groin problem, while Vlad Chiriches begins his injury comeback for Tottenham's Under-21's on Friday.

preview.jpg

If you had told a Tottenham fan back in August that they'd be five points clear of Manchester United in late March, they'd have been forgiven for assuming that Champions League football, at the very least, was returning to White Hart Lane.

In fact, the competition looks likely to elude Spurs again.

It's not impossible for Arsenal to be caught, certainly Arsene Wenger's men look by the far the least convincing of the top four just now. But even if the Gunners do stumble, Everton look in better shape than Tottenham to catch them.

But for Gylfi Sigurdsson's late winner against Southampton last Sunday you'd surely say the game was up already?

Liverpool had not been called upon to really scrap for a win for weeks, not until Sunderland's late rally at Anfield on Wednesday exposed the nervous underbelly to the swaggering incision of their forward play.

Tottenham will have taken note and may adopt a similar tactic; stay in sight for as long as possible and launch the cavalry late on.

But Liverpool's goalscoring stats are remarkable. Suarez and Sturridge, 28 and 23 goals respectively this season, have eclipsed half a century of celebrated goalscoring Anfield partnerships.

The records of Toshack and Keegan, Dalglish and Rush, Aldridge and Beardsley, Fowler and Collymore, Owen and Heskey have all been surpassed by the 51-goal partnership of the SAS.

Not since Roger Hunt and Ian St John in 1963-64 had a Liverpool front pair scored 20 league goals each in the same season.

In fact, Liverpool have scored 11 more goals in the first-half alone (51) this season than Spurs have managed in the whole of their league campaign.

Anfield is the ground at which Tim Sherwood enjoyed the crowning glory of his playing career when, as Blackburn captain, he lifted the Premier League title in 1995.

A win there on Sunday would shatter the form book, and be the best day yet in his fledgling managerial career.

facts.jpg

Head-to-head

  • Tottenham have only won six of their 70 league games at Anfield (D20, L44).
  • Spurs have only won two of the 21 Premier League clashes at Liverpool (W13, D6, L2).
  • Liverpool's 5-0 win in the corresponding fixture was their biggest ever win at White Hart Lane and Andre Villas Boas' final game in charge of Tottenham.
  • The last two meetings between these sides have featured 10 goals.
Liverpool

  • Liverpool have won their last seven league games in a row - their best run since they enjoyed nine consecutive victories in 2005-06.
  • They have only lost one home game this season in all competitions (W14, L1, D1).
  • The Reds have only failed to score in two league games this season. The last time they failed to score in a league match was 30 November against Arsenal.
  • Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge are the third pair to score 20 or more goals each in a single Premier League season, joining Andrew Cole/Peter Beardsley in 1993-94 and Didier Drogba/Frank Lampard in 2009-10.
  • Suarez and Sturridge have scored eight more goals (48) than Tottenham (40) in the Premier League this season.
  • Liverpool have now scored before half-time in a record 21 consecutive Premier League games.
Tottenham
  • Only Manchester United (30) have won more points on their travels than Tottenham (29) this season.
  • However, Spurs have lost their last two away league games without scoring a goal. They haven't lost three in a row since January 2009.
  • Stoke (36) and Newcastle (38) are the only top-half sides to have scored fewer league goals than Tottenham this season (40).
  • Tottenham and Manchester United are the only teams yet to lose a game from a winning position this season.

at least we got dowd reffing. He's decent. Once a season we usually spring a surprise (apart from the usual negative ones), hopefully this is it.

I'd love nothing more than to get a Win here just to stop all this hysteria that Liverpool are gonna win the league. I thought they struggled last night, some people say they were tired but I don't buy that as I think they've only played 31 games all season, I think that maybe the crowd were beginning to feel the pressure and this was being transferred to the players.

If and it's a big if, Tim can get his tactics right and look to frustrate Liverpool to begin with then I think we have a great chance to go on and win. On the other hand if we concede an early goal I can see another thrashing being handed out.

If Sunderland can go there and keep their fans on the edge of their seats into stoppage time, ffs can we just please not capitulate if we concede early. Go up there and give them a fight. Got absolutely nothing to lose at this point besides our pride.

A win, or a proper fight, could just be the psychological difference in the home stretch between us and a possible run at overtaking Arsenal. Slim chances for sure, but they'd certainly be helped out a bit.

I'm hoping Liverpool do, what we would do if so close to winning the title.

Shit themselves and choke.

There was the possibility last night against a very poor side in Sunderland. Hopefully their nerves give us a chance to outscore them.

I'm all for congesting the middle of the park as much as possible...that will affect/negate their diamond formation.

Not opposed to it for this game, but I maintain that Townsend is a solid young player. Only issue I see with this lineup is Eriksen and Chadli crashing each other's space a bit too much, and we're going to need every chance through the middle we can get.

I do like Townsend, he's an incredibly good dribbler, but until he adds some end product to his game he's not a good enough player to be starting for us.

I think the beauty of Eriksen and Chadli in behind Adebayor is that they'll roam all across the pitch and go wide at points. They're extremely versatile. Not having Walker bombing down the right will be a loss though.

Fair assessment of Townsend and a fair assumption of Eriksen and Chadli in such positions. As long as they stay off each other's toes, I think it's a perfectly suitable adaptation of the unbalanced options we have in the squad.

That's a really good line up. Doesn't have to be narrow either, put Walker back in and you get width from the fullbacks. Eriksen, Ade and Chadli will all happily drift wide as well

Great line up from CJ Murray above.

I think we can win (or draw). Of course, i have been as pessimistic of our chances here as for any game in recent times, along with every other Spurs fan i speak to BUT Liverpool have won seven games in a row now.
Teams just don't keep winning.
Keep things tight, don't attack because they love to counter and they could get anxious and we can hit them on the break.
It's time to upset the odds!
