85 mins Tottenham make another change - Roberto Soldado on, Mousa Dembele off.
83 mins GOAL Liverpool 3-2 Tottenham - Balotelli

That's all he needed - a moustache and he's a new man. A goalscoring hero!
Mario Balotelli scores what might be the winner when he sidefoots home from six yards after being teed up by Adam Lallana's low cross. Never in doubt.
80 mins Substitution Chadli for Eriksen
78 mins Substitution Lallana for Markovic
73 mins Substitution Balotelli for Sturridge
72mins YELLOW CARD - Walker
68 mins Substitution Paulinho for Mason
67 mins Substitution Lovren for Gerrard
63mins YELLOW CARD - Dembele for foul on Gerrard.
60 mins GOAL Liverpool 2-2 Tottenham - Dembele
Don't nip to the toilet... you might miss a goal. It's now 2-2, and parity is deserved.
Christian Eriksen's wonderful, curling free-kick is beaten clear at his near post by Simon Mignolet. Harry Kane picks up the rebound and scuffs it back into the six-yard box where Mousa Dembele bundles home.
59 mins YELLOW CARD Sakho
52 mins GOAL Liverpool 2-1 Tottenham - Steven Gerrard (pen)
Gerrard doesn't miss those. He strides up, opens his body and sidefoots into the left-hand corner of Hugo Lloris's goal.
52 mins PENALTY to Liverpool
HALF TIME Liverpool 1-1 Tottenham
45 mins YELLOW CARD Sakho for foul on Dembele
39 mins YELLOW CARD Skrtel the red Mekon for foul on Kane
27 mins YELLOW CARD Christian Eriksen
25 mins GOAL Liverpool 1-1 Tottenham - Harry Kane
Who else? The boy's on fire.
It's a lovely worked goal to bring Spurs level, with Christian Eriksen and Erik Lamela linking up on the edge of the box and the latter playing through a cute ball. It's too clever for Mamadou Sakho who gets in a tangle and falls over, allowing Harry Kane time to pick his spot and bury the ball past Simon Mignolet from 12 yards. All square.
23 mins YELLOW CARD Ryan Mason
15 mins GOAL Liverpool 1-0 Tottenham - Lazar Markovic

Liverpool have lift-off. It's all a bit route one, but the Reds don't mind.
After Harry Kane is robbed in the penalty area, Simon Mignolet launches a long goal-kick forward and Daniel Sturridge controls it but loses it under pressure from Jan Vertonghen. The loose ball runs to Lazar Markovic who drives towards the edge of the box and puts a low shot across Hugo Lloris and into the back of the net. Should the keeper have saved it? Possibly.

Big game, intruiging too. Liverpool have played us off the park a few times in the last couple of years and there's something about the way the play that has really troubled us previously. The quick passing and the pace has been something we've been unable to deal with but in those times that they've given us a bit of a lesson I don't think we've looked as seemingly good as we do now, we're certainly getting better. Also we have a more mobile and energetic midfieled now and a pretty pacy back four.

Arsenal probably won't recall many games this season when they've been pressured, fought and hassled the way they were on Saturday. Hopefully we can show a similar intensity to our game come Tuesday.

Slightly off topic but I note that BT Sport have this game plus the West Ham game and the Europa league ties.

Fucketty fuck.

This will be a very tough game. Some of the players looked a bit spent at the end of the NLD, and it will be incredibly tough to produce a performance like that again.

With Liverpool being in good form and at home, this could be a long night, but if we play like we did against Arsenal, and they play the way they did against Everton, then we'll absolutely smash them.

After Saturday I'm far more confident against teams with a strong attack and weaker defense like Liverpool. If we take the game to them there's no reason why we wont be leaving theirs with at least a point. We'll win the midfield battle, and terrorise them with our attacking unit.

They're one of the few sides left who seem to have a hex over us.. time to break it. We got trounced last time, but they got a huge amount of help from Allen's bellyflop under the lightest of touches, which I think is evidence, along with Andros losing the ball in the final third leading straight to a goal, that they're quite well set up to take advantage of a defensive slip. If we have the same team as Saturday fit and ready to go then I think we have enough workrate defensively as well as going forward to cause them real problems, but I'm sure they won't sit back like Arsenal did, whatever they did against Everton.

It's not going to be easy but if we turn up for this I fancy taking all 3 points. We could do with some luck up there so lets hope those players are injured and we batter them in midfield. I'd stick with the same team except for Lamela. COYS!

In our home game they pressed us like we pressed Arsenal at the weekend and we couldn't handle it.

Hopefully the difference this time around is that we are more confident individually and as a unit to make those 'risky' one-touch passes. There is a developing understanding of where players are off the ball and a confidence to make 'blind' passes with the knowledge that teammates are moving into those (unoccupied) spaces.

Well, that's my limited tactical analysis!!

Good post. Drove me nuts under AVB when we passed to where the player was as opposed to where he was moving to. It is a sign of confidence in the players around you and understanding the team when this starts to happen.

I can honestly see us beating them, from what I have seen of them they are a far cry from how they played last season and we have definitely improved since the start of the season. I think we will win.

If both teams press each other will that result in all 22 players just in the centre circle doing nothing but pressing?

Bang on, this is how you break teams down and move the ball quickly, you pass into space not to feet.

I'm sure by tomorrow evening my confidence will have drained away, but right now i'm feeling quite bullish and agree with you!

Liverpool is not invincible despite having a decent form of late. They'll have their 3rd game in a week tomorrow, and they did line up fairly strong vs. Bolton. They don't score a terrible amount of goals this season, and they've drawn 3 out of the 6 last matches in all competitions. They are implementing a rather experimental 3-4-3 or 3-4-2-1. 3 teams who have defeated them (Palace, Man Utd, Chelsea) all focused their attacks mainly down one wing, either left or right, most likely to create an imbalance in the 3 + WB set up, drawing the opponent over to one side and sneak through the imbalanced defence. Thus, Rose & Walker are givens for me, and I think I would go with both Townsend & Chadli for this match. Townsend to play a part in drawing Liverpool off balance and Chadli to sneak up in front of the goal.
