I don't believe it is that significant an issue. The only reason it has made this much news - and hence prominence of the redressal - the is because of his position in public. In other words a PR exercise because he is a role model. Therefore, drop him for a minor game and tick the box.
If he had knocked someone down would that be an issue? Drink driving is not right no matter who you are.

He didn't knock anyone down, and it's not about who he is. I think it's a bit rich for football fans to complain when they will sit down to Champions League matches sponsored by Belgian beer and also proudly wear Holsten shirts. The issue here is alcohol, the most dangerous drug in the world.
