Hugo Lloris says finishing in the top four means "more than a trophy" after Tottenham booked a third successive season of Champions League football with a 1-0 win against Newcastle.

Its a scary & frustrating fact of not only football, but life. Never has it paid so well to be simply 'decent', as it has now. It used to be the winners who would walk away with the glory, the riches & all the trappings of success, however, qualifying 4th for a competition is now more lucrative than a winners medal.

Trophies always will mean more, or at the very least it ought to. Thankfully there's no medal for finishing in the top-four, so lets aim to actually achieve a winners medal next season; a nice bank balance can't tell you're a winner.

I agree with you but will never knock a man for being positive with what he has. Truth is we didnt win a trophy so lets be positive abouy what we did achieve instead of being bitches about what we could have. Effort is how you judge a team. That's all they owe you for you're support and they give us that in abundance. We have no exclusive right to demand trophies and those who do are very naive. Its actually quite difficult.

There is definitely difference of opinion on how we've done this season. In all honesty at the beginning of the season I didn't see a top 4 finish on the cards at all our competitors were guns blazing from the get go and we stammered along a little bit. Great mid season form, I think the wheels came off after the Juventus tie. Still there are positives about this season. We finished top 4 and we are going home with the squad largely intact. 2 seasons ago our biggest concern was keeping hold of Eriksen, Kane and Alli. Barring a transfer window exodus, could we really have asked for more this season? Perhaps we should of won the FA cup. That alone shouldn't overshadow what hasn't been a easy season away from home.

We've made it into the CL again from the hardest League in Europe by a country mile. We've done it without playing a single home game all season and we've had long term injuries to several key players to deal with as well. That's worth celebrating in my book and has been a fantastic achievement which will go a long way to keeping our squad together and attracting suitable replacements for those that may leave. FA Cup would have been a cherry on top but I'll manage for now.

If we won the FA Cup but finished outside the CL places, we'd have a nice day but a summer of difficulty.
This is the 21st century and the primary aim for any club with ambition is to qualify for the CL first, then any trophy is a bonus.

I kinda agree I would prefer that we constantly qualify for the champions league then win a trophy and be in Europa. But....

I really want both. A trophy and qualification. Which is something we should be aiming for.

Let's cast our minds back to last summer's pre-season. If anybody back then had offered us a reasonable run in this season's Champions League and a finish in the PL's top four, we'd have snapped their hand off. I'm not denying there have been disappointments and frustrating moments, but we could have scarcely have wished for much more from a season without a home game.
Areas for Poch and Levy to work on during the summer? Yes. Reasons for optimism? Yes, so I'm pretty happy about this season, over all.
