Reports in holland linking him with a move for Eriksen

Wouldn't surprise me if he was a fan of Verts too...

I'm hoping the conversation might follow these lines...

LVG: I'd very much like to manage Jan and Christian
DL: I gave you that chance and you turned it down, you plonker
LVG: Yes, but let bygones be bygones, will you sell them to me?
DL: Have you talked to Sir Alex about me?
LVG: He said that you were 'different'.
DL: Too bloody right, mate, now f**k off.

Shinehead would actually ask for his balls. Probably got a jar ready on his bureau.

Well all those who were rubbishing Van Gaal's record because Tim Sherwood was obviously the best manager for us must be fucking delighted at this.

Typical Spurs, though. The one time we have a chance to appoint one of the most successful managers ever, a genuine big name, star attraction managerial great it gets swiped away from us by Manchester fucking United sacking their manager after less than a year having sacked a manager for the first time in 28 years.

I'd say lock this thread and banish it to the depths of SC, but it will be funny to bump it when Man Utd inevitably win the league next season as a reminder to all of the naysayers insisting Van Gaal was shit because he hadn't won a league title whilst being in charge of the Dutch national team.

There was no way van Gaal was going to drop the Holland job and join us in mid-December, and we needed a manager then, because reading between the lines of all the articles and ITK it's pretty obvious the Dear Leader and the Bearded Wonder's relationship had hit Irretrievable Breakdown stage.

Did anyone actually say van Gaal was shit, as opposed to having reservations?

Utd couldn't afford Jan and Eriksen. We would want insane money. Think I said a few months ago that Jan would sign for Utd though so still believe it.

It's going to be interesting seeing how well LVG does at United.

He is going to have to hit the ground running, but with his focus on Holland and the World Cup, he is not going to have much pre season time to get his ideas across to the players. I also think he has a massive rebuilding job to do at UTD and again, because of the World Cup, not much time to do it in.

I agree. He's got one fuck of a job on his hands. They need a whole new back line for a start, and most of a midfield. Ferguson's ability to get the utmost out of his squad and then some more has covered up the fact that the Glazers haven't invested anything like as much as they should. Take Valencia, for example—thoroughly decent player, but if we'd signed him a lot of people would be complaining he wasn't the required standard.

You think so? Look at their turnover. They will be throwing the money that should have been spent over the last six years at the squad, because they can stand one season out of the CL, but two's going to be problematical. I'm not sure they'll need Eriksen with Mata and Kagawa, but Vertonghen's an obvious target.

Maybe couldn't afford is the wrong word but we would want silly money and they won't want to pay it. Verts is obvious unfortunately, although we will get excellent money for him.

I would be unbelievably pissed if LVG (who this week admitted to turning us down) succeeds to buy/unsettle Eriksen and Vertonghen. And if Levy sold, I think that would be the end of him (unless he got an amazing price for them).

He won't. The story is from sportsdirectnews. It's bullshit- we would never sell to United.

Of course they won't want to, but they'll have to. They really are over a barrel.

Carrick? Berbatov?
After the Berbatov shit happened, I don't think we'll ever sell to them again- that's what I meant.

Levy won't sell to a rival- people have their doubts about him but I know he wouldn't do it anymore. The whole Modric stuff made be believe this.

I think it will depend on the player. If he makes a total tool of himself and throws his toys out of the pram—and I have a nasty feeling Vertonghen might do this, even if de Boer gets the job—then I suspect Levy will name a silly price and wait for the Glazers to meet it.

I'm not talking about when Sherwood was put in charge, it was pretty obvious we wouldn't get any of our main targets at that stage of the season - be it Van Gaal, de Boer, Pochettino. But once the discussions became who we should be looking to appoint at the end of the season and Van Gaal was the favourite there were several people dismissing his achievements on the basis of the number of trophies he'd won in the last ten years, or on the relative strength of the Dutch league. Usually they were the same people bigging up Sherwood.

Right, must have missed that when I gave up posting because of the Sherwood-hate hysteria.

LVG to Man U "combustible" is the word for me.

It will be the story of the first 6 months of the season. Giggs in charge by January.

He will certainly upset a few and it will either end up as him being claimed as the next Messiah or in tears. However he is/was exactly what we needed to sort this club out. Not sure how we go from him to Poch though.
