Didn't put much on - wish I had. Only a fiver. But still...free money is free money! :D I'm not going to say which or whose post inspired me to make that bet. ;)

As Robert de Niro once eloquently expressed it (while wrapping a teplephone wire around Morri's neck): "Just give me the fecking money, give me the FECKING money."

And we also officially became RM 's feeder club. Oh well

Is that how you read it? I don;t read it like that at all. Levy has been trying to do this for a while, and it was clearly him pushing for it. I find it inconceivible if he would do that if the only benefit was to become Real's feeder club. Indeed, I would highly surprised if being RM's feeder club even comes into the equation at all.

Ther eis an interesting interview with Balague, on TalkSheeeeeeeeeeee-ite, giving an interesting, Spansih slant on the whole business and how we are perceived in Spain. You will find it here:

To be honest I don't hear anything to dispel that we're their feeder. Balague even points out that at some point if Real want our players they can lean on this agreement.

He stresses over and again that it was us that wanted this agreement and pushed for it, and that it is a no brainer that we will benefit ffrom it. He is pushed time and again to say it makes us their feeder club and refuses to do so, and eventually concedes that they can try to lean on this agreement but that that doesn't mean they will get any players, and any player exchanges are likely to be at the academy level. You seem to have picked out the one sentence which, if taken out of context, supports your original opinion (which seems like a highly negative opinion, to me).

Do you really rate Dan Levy so lowly at this game, that you imagine he would push over a period to get this done and then use their desire for Modric to push it through, just so we could be Real Madrid's feeder club? I just don't get that...and, I certainly don't get it from that interview.

Seriously, I am not having a go at you, but I would suggest you put aside your imediate fear that we mgiht become their feeder club and then listen to that interview again, because I have, and Ballague stresses that it is at academy level, and that Real can try to use the special relationship if they want but that there is nothing to suggest that Bale is next or that this deal will allow them to pick Bale, and that Bale, Lennon, Walker are in safe hands with Daniel Levy (interesting choice of players, I thought). In fact, just to make it clearer, he emphasises that if we miss out on CL and if one of our top players want out, RM could try to use it to get a hearing (I think that is what he said).

Alternatively, you can continue to believe this and live in fear of us being Real's feeder club, that is your opinion, just like it is my opinion, which I think it based in fact, that Levy has been after this for a while, really pushed for it as part of the Modric deal, that we will benefit from it (as Ballague says, more than Real Madrid), it is primarily set at academy level, if Real try to use it to bully us out of Bale levy will tell them to feck off, and that Levy is far more competent than you seem to realise (y)

p.s. Bobbins, we will be fine. We will fine some good players to take up the slack. I can live without us finishing top 4 this season, but think we will. Think the Goons are going to struggle for goals and both they and Chelsea still look fragile in defence. So, kinda expecting top 4 without demanding it.

I'm not worried SP - I didn't want my post to come across as whiney - I genuinely expect us to be finishing around 6-8 and I will be happy with that. Hell, I'm usually happy to avoid relegation - my football life revolves around enjoying watching my team play and hoping we win, but I'm now old enough and have lived enough to realise that there are many, many far more important things in life than whether we win or lose a match or where we might finish in the league.

I certainly don't expect us to be near the top 4 - though obviously I'll be delighted if we are.

Like I say, my main football 'hope' for the next few years is simply for us to get the new stadium up and running and for the FFP rules to come into full effect. Those two things will help us out more than any one player or 'partnership agreement' with Real Madrid.

Just read this about him on the Madrid website..

The main footballing attributes of Modric are his golden vision, his genuine goal threat and his great technical ability'

Well he does score genuine goals, just not many of them!

I didn't think you were whining.
Just think you are aiming a bit low.
Like I said, I actually agree that not finishing in the top 4 is not the end of the day. I just believe we will finish there. Despite not winning, I think the early signs have been very good. I believe we will make some good signings. And I expect big things from the youth system.
I expect us to have a pretty good team before and by the time the stadiumis built, and then kick on from there. I really do not expect Levy to undo all the hard work and let us slip back to mid-table just for us to spend a lot of time replicating all the hard work to get us back to were we are now, when he obviously wants us to kick on form where we are now.

Anyone see this? What did sulkypants* say?

*I'm not totally anti-Luka btw, I just think he could have handled himself a bit better.

To paraphrase, he said very little, just he is happy to be at the best team in the world, with the best players and the best manager. He just wants to play football now and enjoy it.

I was hoping he might say something about Spurs but didn't in the clip I saw.

Aw, I was hoping we might at least get a "No like chicken badge".

It's not that I have a fear, I just want some guarantees against us doing to them what we're doing to Internacional with Damiao. I don't particularly believe its smart to lose at your own game.
