Another player who wants to transfer into success rather than working to achieve it?

He can jog on then. No one "deserves" CL. Last year Suarez, a player a million times better than Lukaku, didn't even feature in Europe, despite having offers form CL clubs.
What has Lukaku done to warrant such demands?

I think that's quite harsh

My guess is he'd like to:
i) stay in England
ii) play in the CL

Depending on how wedded he feels to the Prem, the weight of those factors might change, but playing in the CL is an important part of a player's career, and bluntly if there are CL teams who are interested, then that's his call.

It's a shame for us but it's a fact of life. He is still young, so I'm sure there's sense in still cutting his teeth for a good side in a quality like (like us) but it's his call

It's tricky, I dont blame him for wanting CL football and if he has those clubs making offers compared to us then I would expect him to pick one of them but I also agree with the other comments on here that at 21 years old he arguably should be looking at the best overall situation for his development, not just teams that are in the CL.

Let me see if I understand this, the CL-participant Chelsea doesn't believe in him, yet he assumes that any other high-flying CL-club just like that is ready to slot him into their CL XI?

I'm well happy. Please don't come Lukaku. Massively limited imo. Strong as fuck, no doubt, touch of saville, no doubt.
Still think if we're going for a big athletic lump Origi is a better bet in the long term as is the Aston villa Belgian boy whose name annoyingly escapes me. You know who I mean.
Never saw what all the fuss was about regarding Lukaku. He'll never be the next Drogba. Not enough ability, and though strong, doesn't use it half as well as Drogba. I think the other two I mentioned will be far better.
His is the classic case of giagantism at a young age helping him bully other lads but now, even though still a unit, he can't bully men like before.

As usual, Lukaku doesn't say what the journalist implies - it's been distorted. He talks about how he wants to emulate Higuain, who "has evolved slowly into becoming a top player" and then suggests (perhaps edited, who knows?) that he wants to play in the Champions League. That would imply the opposite of what some posts above are suggesting, i.e., that he wants to move to a CL club immediately.

And the only reason suggested in the article why the transfer won't happen relates to Chelsea's reluctance to sell to Spurs, not to Lukaku's reluctance to join.

If you don't read carefully, you reach a false conclusion. The press are relying on this.

Its an odd one, while he has the talent I am sure he thinks he is currently better then he is, he has become the loan-away guy. Maybe he needs a club that is on the up which would better mirror his current talent more. He has not exactly ripped up trees in the World Cup. And the Everton games I watched him in last season he was fairly inconsistent. Sandro kept him in his pocket against us very easily.

The best Striker we could hope to land is the good Ade he is skilful links plays, not selfish, great athlete and he is making a lot of positive noise atm. I really hope he and Poch hit it off and he has a great season with us.

Yeah but is it gonna be a halfway consistent Ade, who gives a shit, or the other one?! I hope he knuckles down and keeps fit.

Odd isn't it. I'd argue the PL is as open and exciting as its ever been. Really playing for any of the top 7 is going to be great for your career and if you are as good as you think you are then you could even do a Liverpool and come from nowhere to challenge for the title.

After his World Cup showing not surely has the choice of clubs he might once have had.

Although, tbf he does not make specific quotes to spurs or champs league in the article. Seems more like he wants regular 1st team football at his own club and if that's in the ecl then who wouldn't.

I think Adebeyor is a far better player than Lukaku, who from what I've seen has a brutal first touch and is incapable of holding on to the ball. I think Defoe was better than him, but not as big.

I think ham is better than chicken. Blue is better than Red. Trees are better than rocks. Blah blah blah.

People don't read the Article. Then they don't read other people's posts. Then they just post some arbitrary opinion on what they like and don't like.

To summarise:

- Lukaku doesn't say what the headline says (shock horror). Read DM's post above.
- Find me a player that doesn't want to play in the Champions League and I'll find you a player that you don't want to sign for Spurs.
- Lukaku is obviously a talent, but young, inconsistent and still to develop. If he was established, consistent and all the things you seem to want him to be, we would be selling him (to Real Madrid); not buying him (from Chelsea).

Grow up people. It is getting tiresome wading through the rubbish to find posts of interest on here.

His is the classic case of giagantism at a young age helping him bully other lads but now, even though still a unit, he can't bully men like before.

At that age, i.e. 21, few saw the "fuss" about Drogba either. At that age Drogba was plying his trade at Le Mans (age 20-24) and then Guingamp, before a bigger club, l'OM, caught their attention. It was not before he turned 26 that he "world" first "saw" Drogba. Yes, Drogba may be a slow developer and Lukaku most probably won't ever reach his standards but I would not write off Lukaku just like that simply because he won't be the player Drogba was. Henry and Drogba were easily the 2 best CF in the EPL history, and in their time some of the best in the world.
Lukaku had a poor world cup, which has been the case of many excellent players.
For 20-22M I would not say not to signing him.

Well tbh.... Chelsea also think Torres is still a good striker so I wouldn't go off what Chelsea do to set a bar of any kind
