Hopefully they both start, Oduwa needs to work on his end product and add some goals and assists to his stat sheet.

Apparently the young 17 yr old Peterborough player is supposed to be a bit special and there are 10 PL scouts there to watch him.

da silva lopes looked ok, played quite a basic sitting role of breaking up play and giving it simple, reminded me a bit of fabian delph but wasn't tasked with being as energetic. might be one to keep an eye on but not an obvious buy at this point. oduwa did a couple of good things when he came on but also lost it just as often, he doesn't seem to be playing with much belief at the moment and i'm sure a couple of his teammates were ignoring him when he was the obvious pass but maybe i'm reading into it too much.

Da Silva Lopes is a striker I thought...? Are you thinking of Anderson?

Really weird but I thought exactly the same and I'll even bane the guy who kept doing it - Taylor - I counted about 9 times when Oduwa took up intelligent positions and that stupid little fuckwit Taylor just held onto the ball, chose a worse option or lost it.

I remember thinking exactly the same at Rangers when I watched him there. He takes up good positions, but this is where playing at poor standard levels on loan can be counter productive, you just know Eriksen or Lsmela would make those passes.

Even in his 12 minutes he did ok, getting to the byline, getting his head up and cutting it back to a team mate for a chance (something Walker and Rose invariably fail to do) another time playing a clever back heel but that idiot Taylor had run offside, another time leaving two defenders on the deck laying it off which resulted in another good attacking situation.

I just would love to have seen him given a chance at first team level, brought in to run at tired legs in a couple of first team games, I just don't think what he is is ever going to be appreciated or very compatible at shit kicker level.

If, as a loanee, you are a busy ****, get stuck in and put yourself about, you'll get your teamates' support and appreciation. If there's even a hint that you are a luxury player, and are slumming it until a better chance comes along, then it'll be tough for you. Taarabt got away with it because he scored and got assists, practically every game he played. Oduwa won't do that. He is going to need a lot of support from his coaching staff, or he'll have no chance.

The only times I saw him lose the ball were when he received hospital passes. Even when he was enduring GBH at Rangers, he seemed to be a very calm player, with more time on the ball than those around him. He might be better off abroad, though probably too young for that right now. He'll never be part of a Poch team, though, which is a bit sad.

Do you reckon that was down to Taylor choosing to ignore Oduwa, or simply poor vision and decision making by a lower league player?

I really feel for the kid, I thought the same at Rangers, after that first game of showboating, which in hindsight was probably a bit daft, he buckled down and generally made good choices, didn't always try the difficult, and players that take people on will loose the ball sometimes, it goes with the territory, but nearly every time I have seen him play, he's made chances, he does get his head up and try to create for others.

Ive made very similar points about playing abroad for our youth players, particularly somewhere like France, where youth coaching is good and integration is deemed a economic necessity and was thinking exactly the same today watching him. We are paying 10m for players like Njie and Nkoudou, but I reckon if Oduwa had a season at any of the normal (i.e. non PSG) french club what he brings would be nurtured and coached and I reckon he'd flourish. He's not lazy, he doesn't refuse to chase back and retrieve when he loses the ball. I actually think he's got a pretty rare talent, the ability to beat players, and get his head up, looks like he's as much natural, raw ability on the ball than Nji, Nkoudou, Townsend, Chadli even Lamela, he just needs to find a place where his skill set will be valued, as you say, a coach that works with him and some game time, and I fear the lower English leagues are just not the place for a kid like him.

I have no idea mate, but Taylor came across as a bit of a prick when he went into a challenge with someone on the byline, he also seemed to fancy himself as a bit of an attacking busy ****, so I wonder if the arrival of the more naturally talented Oduwa "from the big London club" has put his nose out of joint ?

I know when he was up in Scotland he was targeted for brutal challenges because he was a flashy English loanee, sounds like a similar thing is happening here.

No-one went over the top on him today, Taylor was his team mate.

Nothing justifies what happened to Oduwa in Scotland, it was diabolical, but he was a bit daft doing the show boating on his debut (though even in that game he created stuff and I think won a penalty).

Oh, I'm not saying that anyone did, I'm just saying that he seems to be views in a negative light for the same reasons. In Scotland, it showed itself in the defenders' challenges, but it sounds like in Peterborough it's showing itself in his teammates ignoring him.

Just finished watching the game as I had to go out earlier. The Lopes kid looked OK but didn't get in the game too much, but impressive that he is only 17 and playing in a 442 as a cm in league one and he's not that big either. Definitely one to watch.

Going back to Oduwa, I just don't think his style is suited to league 1 or championship football, he's a bit lazy defensively and you can't be like that at that level. I guess this is why Poch probably doesn't like him. His style is more suited to Serie A or La liga where the pace is a bit slower.

If he ever wants to be part of our set up under Poch he will need to improve his attitude if he's currently lazy defensively

Putting in effort to do your shift off the ball for the team is something anyone can do if they have the desire to

So I think a lot will depend on his own attitude and commitment to adapt his game to include the off the ball duties (maybe if he'd shown some of this already he'd have been given chances in the EL last year having featured in our preseason)
