Shaw is a very good left back.
He and Smalling pissed Mour off and haven't played since.
Injuries, suspension, plenty of games and Poch rotating his wing backs will mean plenty of game time for both left backs.
If he's available yes please

Well said. I think Shaw has proved himself that if fit he's the best LB in the PL. However I would never swap Rose for Shaw at this time.

But if Rose wanted to move to a "bigger" club = earn more money, Shaw would be a good replacement since he played under Poch before.

I don't think he has ever been anywhere close to the form Rose has been in for the past 2 seasons. He's got a load of potential, but injuries have stifled him - he hasn't proved anything in my opinion.

Totally not interested. Hasn't been the same player since the injury against Monaco that put him out for a year.

Too big a risk.

Sorry but that's just completely wrong.

Look Squawka Comparison Matrix from when Shaw broke through at Southampton. You will see him winning all the categories. I remember Ben Davies was up there as well that one season where he played good and regularly.
Not that stats matters that much, but Shaw was playing amazing and was clear the best LB at the time in the PL, and yes he was up there were Rose is now. Difference is Shaw is only 21.

We'll have to disagree. I would look at attributes ahead of stats and there are only a couple I think peak Shaw has over Rose. Rose is faster, is more tenacious, has far far better stamina, is a better defender, is more of a goal threat and I think at the moment he is getting forward and crossing better than Shaw ever did.

I do agree that at the time he was the best left back in the country, but I'd attribute that to Poch's coaching and Southampton's well-drilled defensive unit as much as his own individual talent - though he did show his ability when he was actually fit enough to play for United eventually. You said he has proven that if he's fit he's the best LB in the PL, which just isn't proven at all for me (but obviously it's completely fine that you have your opinion etc). There isn't a left back in the world I'd take ahead of current Danny Rose and that certainly includes Luke Shaw.

Luke Shaw wouldn't want to come here unless Danny was leaving and Danny isn't leaving so this is a non-starter.

Good left back or not can he play the same attacking role that Rose is now playing. I know he had the same manager at one point but Southampton were nowhere near as attacking(full back wise) as we currently are.

there is no way Rose is going
there is no way Shaw would come here if Rose was here
there is no way we are paying 20m plus for a reserve left back, just isnt going to happen
Rose is one of the best left backs in the world and Davies is a decent back up who now can also play left side in a 3

Rose is faster? Must be untrue. Do you actually have any proof of this? Since I think Shaw is faster. I can find Shaw's with top speed of 34.13km/h. Rose not in top10 or 20 anywhere. I think Shaw has a better left foot aswell. The other things I can be okay with.

So playing 25 games in 12/13 and 35 games in 13/14 is not proving yourself, for you? Shaw was beasting the PL and that's why United bought him for enormous £30m at the time for a 18 year old left back.

But we disagree and that's fine.

With regards to the top speed, stats aren't going to show anything with that (e.g. http://www.hertfordshiremercury.co....test-players/story-29848686-detail/story.html) - Shaw has never looked fast at all to me, with Danny Rose being fairly rapid. I think Shaw is historically better at crossing and using his brain in advanced positions, but Rose has come a long way with that aspect.

I think he is proven as a very good player, but not proven that he's the best if he's fit. I think a lot of defenders seem to play the best football of their careers under Poch - our current batch included.

Don't get me wrong, i'm not saying if Shaw was fit right now, that he would automatically be the best LB in the league, Rose has evolved to much for that and is the best right now. However I do think Shaw can be the best left back in the world if he wants to.

I guess a question might be, is Luke Shaw an upgrade on Ben Davies?

I'd say it depends. Davies is better defensively and about the same level offensively, provided he gets to come from deep and isn't expected to be playing the role Rose does these days, where he's often set up 1 v. 1 when attacking.

And I got to say, I'm starting to wonder about what sort of character Shaw is. Van Gaal had to make him slim down after the summer break before he was allowed to train with the others, and he seems to be very out of favour with Mourinho as well.

Heard that the Gooners were letting Kieran Gibbs go. If that's true I'd sooner have him than Shaw, but don't actually want either.

is LB where we need the most help? I dont think so - we already have three first team players that can play there when Verts is fit. Spend the money somewhere else.

People seem to forget reading the post than just comment away than we don't need any LB's.

I agree this rumour is bollocks but so is stating the obvious

Not just you though ;)

My answer would be yes and I would replace him over Ben to be Rose's back up. Never been overly impressed with Ben especially as an attacking FB in a five man defence

Shaw at Southampton looked very much like a young Bale when he was playing at LB. He looked far better than Rose did at the same age.

However, Rose is now the best LB/LWB in the country and I can't see why Shaw would want to leave Man Utd just to sit on our bench. The guy needs regular football to recover from practically three years worth of injuries and he won't get that here.
