The Independent claiming we could be in for Shaw depending on the future of Danny Rose.

United will meanwhile be open to offers for Shaw. The 21-year-old has only made 13 appearances for the club this season, with none in the league since 29 October and none in any competition since the 30 November League Cup win over West Ham United.

Mourinho is said to have become frustrated with Shaw's lack of progress in what the manager is trying to do with the team, and that has even led to some senior first-team players speaking to the young defender privately.

United will listen to offers in the summer, with Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur - depending on Danny Rose's future - earmarked as potential buyers, although it remains to be seen whether United would sell to a rival.

Shaw has not yet been completely written off, and could yet turn his situation around, but those close to the squad saw he has a lot of convincing to do.

I would argue that Shaw would be a useful signing but not in place of Rose. Shaw is very injury prone and needs to prove himself again but could be the perfect player to rotate with Danny so we don't burn the latter out.

Shaw played his best football under Poch at Saints so I'm sure he would be interested in the move as well.

Sounds like rubbish. If it depends on Danny Rose, linked away in the comics recently but on a long contract and saying he's happy to stay for the rest of his career, then you'd think it's just page filler or click bait to tease Man Utd and Spurs fans.

That said, Shaw was good before the injury and may fit in well - if he has recovered.

Injury plagued and hasn't developed like people thought he would.

Still a decent LB and I'm sure Poch would do a good job with him, but can't see Rose going anywhere and Shaw wouldn't come here to play back up as he'll want regular football at this stage of his career.

Shaw probably needs to resurrect his career by getting first team football. A move back to Southampton would be sensible.

I said last week in the Danny Rose thread that this would be the next rumour.

Typical crap journalism. Add a couple of bits of info together and come up with a fabricated story.

Sounds like nonsense to me - I wouldnt want Shaw here anyway - a player living on one good season several years ago. He is a crock and when he does play he is very underwhelming. He may come good but he is currently injured and not very good.

Fucken hell, I thought he was the best left back in history?!? (after Chilwell)

I spose he'd be good backup to rose:ROFLMAO: if Davies left.

He's a Chelsea fan so if there was a decision to be made I'd imagine he'd join them.

Before his injury last season he was united's best player. Is he injury plagued, or is everyone saying this because of one major injury? Saying that Rose is the man, and Davies is a very capable back up, so I don't know where he'd fit in, or even if it would be financially practical.

I'm not sure injury plagued is the same as having a severely broken leg and struggling for fitness thereafter. I actually feel sorry for him, that injury was seriously fucked up. When he was at Southampton he looked like he was on track to become an absolute jet, yet that injury set him back a long way.

It would never happen, but you wouldn't have to think twice before accepting if he wanted to be reunited with Pochettino and knew that he was here initially to compete with Danny Rose.

He's got all the ability to be better than Danny but I wouldn't swap Danny for Shaw in 100m years. That's not to say that if we could sell Danny for £60m and sign Shaw for £20m I wouldn't at least consider it, you'd be crazy not to.

However, I would love to see Danny lifting the PL trophy at New White Hart Lane so hope we don't even have to consider it

Well said. I think Shaw has proved himself that if fit he's the best LB in the PL. However I would never swap Rose for Shaw at this time.

But if Rose wanted to move to a "bigger" club = earn more money, Shaw would be a good replacement since he played under Poch before.

The game against Villa suggested Davies is not a natural wing back whereas Shaw is.

If there is potential to get in a 21 year old, natural, wingback who Poch is familiar with then I would assume we would take it.

The key is whether that injury has taken its toll mentally and physically.

I dont know too much about Shaw (only really watching Spurs in Aus), but is he a similar left back to Rose i.e. very good going forward?

Saying that, Rose is currently one of our most important players. I am not sure if I would sell him for under £50mio, especially not to a premier league rival.

Maybe if a non rival like Man U offered that ;)

I think Pochettino is happy with Ben Davies but probably has been less enamoured with him this season compared to last.

He's featured a little more and has been playing better and I expect if he can improve to his level last season that we won't be looking at LBs.
