The financial penalty faced by Mace for late delivery of the Tottenham Hotspur’s new stadium will run into millions of pounds, according to a leading construction lawyer.

Potentially the same story here:
http://www.dailyworldnews.co.uk/sports/mace-faces-bill-running-into-millions-on-tottenham-stadium/

Clearly a dodgy translation of something though so don't read too much into it.

It shouldn't be a surprise that the construction firm will face penalties for late completion - I believe that's a standard thing in that industry. What will be interesting to see is when the stadium finally will be ready and how much of that fine is going to be fed directly back to the fans.

I've read a few articles that all seem to quote this same source, but I'm a bit confused as to how he knows who is at fault? From the few details we've got that can really be considered more than rumour, it sounds like it could be any one of a half a dozen people/companies at fault, all the way back to the architects, so why we're trying to apportion blame already is a bit weird.

Unless I've missed some official statement or technical breakdown of the problem, any article is going to be almost certainly pure speculation. For all we know, MACE might've been the ones to identify the problem and, potentially, save thousands of lives.

The main contractor will always carry the can and attract the penalty clauses

It depends on the contract type. I very much doubt Mace would have signed up to a lump sum contract. And, as Rocksuperstar says, it depends on why the delays have occurred. If it can be shown to be as a result of failings in the original design or Spurs changing their minds part way through the construction phase Mace will probably be able to cover some or all of the potential losses.

Surely the factors now are money and time? If they work around the clock they can overcome the potential delay?

It depends on what the actual problem is. If it's something in the design of the stadium or a vital part of the structure then it could be a huge job, or it could be something as simple as some pipes not coming up to industry standard somewhere or software issue which, once identified, might only take a few days to sort out and the delay is in the diagnostics.

Until more details are out in the open it's all guesses.

And there it is in a nutshell. We'll have to wait for Daniel Levy's autobiography in 20 odd years time ...

The only important factor have ever been money and time and even time boils down to money too. Working around the clock would mean incurring greater costs of labour and equipment hiring costs, overcoming restrictions on working hours or noise pollution and many other things - which may or may not be financially worthwhile to the contractors if the damages they are likely to be apportioned are less than the liquidated damages. I suspect the delay analysts from all parties involved are running their little graphs on a daily basis

Not sure what’s happened there it was working when I posted

Looks like they’ve pulled the story for whatever reason. It’s not live on their site on any other URL. Either an editor spotted the iffy source or Spurs been on the phone

If the bloody gate marshals had let in urgent resource suppliers on the first attempt not the forth things might have been nearer schedule.
They were waiting 6 weeks for BT cables due to marshals not being co-operative.

That's water under the bridge, and it has been a long time ago. All effort have to go into solving the problems including the prospective venue/date for the Man City game.

It was only in April, that issues started, that held it up for 6 weeks, yes focus on getting the games on asap, but when questions are raised over delays, people will want accountable people to be blamed.
