Potentially yes, but in the short term I think he would require time to adjust to speed and physicality of the league. Hes still pretty raw in my opinion but he obviously has a load of potential.

Call me OCD but every time I see his name my overriding reaction is that it’s missing the second L.

I don’t think I can get on board with the signing until he does something about this.

I agree although I don't really think they are comparable, Malcom is very much a RWF and I have never seen him play up front. Even as a RW he is more of a playmaker then someone like Son.

He's only 21 we bought Eriksen at 21 would he have got a lot of game time at Barca if they'd bought him then? I'm not sure he would, not that they were interested as a pretty general feeling at the time was he went awol in games, especially the big ones.
I'm not convinced Barcelona is a good choice of club for a player like this to go to as I don't think they develop them well, another example is Denis Suarez, they ain't the Barca of ten years ago plus, of course, he ain't no Iniesta, nobody in the world is an Iniesta, but that don't make him a bad player.
I watched a couple of Bordeaux games when we were interested in him before and the standard of both sides in both games was piss poor but there was some quality on the pitch and that quality was Malcom so I was ok with getting him, I'm pretty sure he didn't mug us off, I am pretty sure he was ready to come to us but the owners brought in Gus Poyet as manager and pulled the deal, after that I don't think we went back in and Barca came calling.

If this is true (big if), it's a good signing IMO. People say we don't need any more attacking players but with Son and Kane currently unavailable and considering Lamela's fitness issues, Malcom will definitely get game time. Loan with an option to buy, with an affordable fee = no brainer.

Also, we were tracking him for more than a year before he joined Barcelona so we obviously rate him. An iffy time whilst at Barca doesn't suddenly make him a bad player. Just hasn't worked out for him there. Let Poch work his magic ?

It makes so much sense to how we operate.

Player fits our profile as he;
- Young
- Great potential
- Excellent technique
- Not wanted at current club
- Easier to obtain (Lucas and Aurier are prime examples)

Because he's not wanted at Barca doesn't mean to say he's not good enough for us and we have scouted him extensively. I wanted him before we got Lucas so I'd be happy if we got him.

We seem great at tracking players, but less good at getting them early.
