Was there not suggestions last year that he had talks with him in January? I think he is more trouble than he is worth, but at this point a loan wouldnt be worse option.

Yeah there was mostly from Herc, possibly a suggestion of goalposts being moved by JJ, I might be getting that mixed though. Not sure he's trouble as you suggest though, he didn't kick a stink up at Bordeaux just fucked Roma around which seemed mostly to be his agent. He seemed happy to go to Roma.

Yeah, based off all ITK (JJ included) we were trying a year ago but Bordeaux wouldn't sell in January.

That’s pretty much how I remember it.
We were talking to them and making headway. Then they sacked the manager, appointed Poyet, but he demanded that keep him till summer. After that we went for Moura, and our interest seemed to drop off.
Don’t remember any bad stories about Malcom being difficult at all.

Not only were we trying but that’s about as excited as I remember Herc being about anyone as far as how “close” we were to a deal.

Debating who you'd rather sign between Malcom and Werner is basically the same as debating whether you'd sleep with Emily Ratajkowski or Margot Robbie. Neither is going to happen.

For the record, I'd choose Emily and Werner. Not sure if she's any good at football though.

Yep, I have a feeling it will be the same as the summer and most windows for that matter. A few fancy or reasonably exciting names thrown about, none will be with us come the end of the window.

Why would you care whether she's good at football if she's good scratching your balls.

I think the only way we buy anyone in this window is if Levy starts to worry about our chances of securing Champions League football next season when we're in the new stadium.

Champions League revenue is key and our starting eleven, not just our squad, is starting to look pretty thin with no Kane or Son, limited midfield options and Poch seemingly unconvinced by our fullbacks.

If Levy thinks we're fine as is and he's confident we have enough to get us through the season, then it's probably not happening. We seem to be satisfied with "good enough".

But surely whether we have enough isn’t a decision that Levy can and will make? He’s the business man, not the football man. Surely if Poch pushes for an addition then we will have to get one, of that description. He will never have a stronger bargaining position as THFC manager.
Whether that will happen or not I genuinely don’t know.

To be honest mate, I think he just wants Poch to squeeze us through (to the CL) even if our squad is down to the bare-bone and of course without having to spend a penny. If anything how well we've done up to this point would probably further convince him we won't need much/anything this window.

I'm just really not encouraged with the prospect of something happening due to our current predicament. It was important in the summer and it's important now, we already did nothing in one of those so I personally wouldn't be surprised at all to see the same.

I really don't want to be telling myself that surely we will sign someone now, because I think I'll end up very disappointed.

I’m all honesty I would rather play Llorente up front until Son gets back ( and even then maybe play both of them).

Unless we are thinking of selling Moura or Lamela in the summer and think we can negotiate a reasonable agreement to buy Malcom in the summer I really don’t see the point of this.
Because there will be more competition in the summer.

We've got away with a zero net spend for years and currently with a zero summer spend since we're still in the top 4. I'm fairly sure Levy will continue with that policy until it bites him in the arse - which could quite easily be the second half of this season. Mind you, I've thought we were pushing our luck for the past couple of seasons but we got away with it.

It’s a huge gamble though, because the first season we drop out, how many clubs will come calling for our manager, seeing what he has achieved with limited budget. Then our players will be in demand (currently are anyway) but also unsettled for the first time in a while.
The first season we drop out of top 4, the whole thing starts to look shaky. No doubt CL money has been factored into paying off the stadium. Once you drop out of the regular top 4, it’s a long haul to get back in.
For me, that’s why this window is key. Poch and Levy need to steady the ship, Poch make the transfer calls, and Levy make it happen. Bolster the squad abs secure our position. Last thing we need is to fall off the pace right as we enter our new stadium. Ignoring the top two for now. Man Utd have taken decisive action to close the gap. Chelsea are starting to spend to do likewise. Even the Goons are looking to make additions.
Malcom, whilst not an out and out CF cover for Kane and Son, does at least add attacking options, freeing up Dele, Eriksen and maybe Lamela to cover Dembele’s departure. Add in the comments about recalling Onomah too.

A couple of weeks before we signed Moura, I kept waking up at three in the morning with an enlarged version of his FIFA 18 card in my head.

For the last two nights I’m experiencing the same, this time a vision of Malcom’s FIFA 19 card. I take this as a sign we’re going to sign him.

Equally, I wish the acid hadn’t been so strong in the 90s

Didn't we end up getting Lucas essentially because we couldn't get Malcom?
