Manchester City have agreed to sign Mexico striker Nery Castillo on a year-long loan from Shakhtar Donetsk. Castillo only moved to the Ukraine in the summer in a £15m move from Greek side Olympiacos but he has failed to hold down a starting place.
The 23-year-old will join the City squad on 1 January.
"Nery's desire to make this deal happen was extraordinary - he has paid most of the loan fee himself," said City chief executive Alistair Mackintosh.
"This proves how much he wants to play for Manchester City in the Premier League.
"We are excited and delighted that another young established international has joined the club."

City boss Sven-Goran Eriksson, who was initially linked to Castillo before the Mexican joined Donetsk, has seen his side struggle up front this season despite their lofty position in the Premier League table.
Rolando Bianchi, an £8m summer signing, has failed to hold down a regular place and Darius Vassell, Georgios Samaras and Emile Mpenza have scored only three times between them.
Despite his failure to make an impact with Donetsk, Castillo arrives at Eastlands with an impressive reputation.
He scored four goals to help Mexico reach the semi-finals of the 2007 Copa America and managed 12 goals in 25 games - including three goals in six Champions League matches - in his final season with Olympiacos in Greece.

Rather over-enthusiastic use of an exclamation mark, but I'm sure he's a good player.

Strikes me as a bit odd though, as - from the admittedly little I've seen of Castillo - he looks like an attacking mid/player in the hole and not a target man or 'old-fashioned centre-forward', which is what Citeh look like the need. Surely Elano, Petrov and Vassell are playing in a similar role presently.

I suppose if they back this signing up with Crouch and maybe Owen, they'd have a very, very tasty unit, and you'd have to admit they'd be favourites for 5th.

Hardly breaking news either, as he was unveiled before the match yesterday.

Hopefully he'll be another Man City turkey, like so many others of late. I'm trying to think of the last time they had a prolific striker and the only names i can think of are Rosler and The Goat. Am i missing anyone?

I think they will really benefit from getting Bojinov back. I always thought he would be class in the EPL but we'll have to see how his various injuries have affected him.

He was absolutely fantastic in the Copa America last summer. I was very impressed with him.

Not sure whether he'll make a big impact on the premiership though. Hope not.

They should get Gary Doherty, who can also play in defence. This is because he is too good to only play in one position.

In 1999 Gary Doherty became the first man to play in 2 completely seperate positions at the same time in a competitive game.

Why am I writing this shit?

Who?

Remember Rosler, genius. Now coach of Viking in Norway, took them to 3rd this year (his first) after they only just avoided relegation last year. Very talented and competent gaffer, I'm betting he'll manage a top division club in a top league one day.

As in "#Feed the Goat and he will score" - the second best football chant ever (after the "#doo-doo-doo-do, do-do, do-do Kanchelskis" to the tune of MC Hammer's 'Can't Touch This').

Best chant ever has to be "There's only 2 Andy Gorams"

or

"Don't blame it on the Biscan,
Don't blame it on the Hamann,
Don't blame it on the Finnan,
Blame it on Traore,
He just can't, He just can't, He just can't control his feet"

or (to brighton fans)

We can see you,
We can see you,
We can see you holding hands

or

"VAN PER-SIE, WHEN A GIRL SAYS NO - MOLEST HER"

or

To the tune of 'Yellow Submarine':

Peter Reid peels bananas with his feet,
Bananas with his feet,
Bananas with his feet.
