I swear some people will not be happy until we go back in time and play like Howard Wilkinson said football should be played
Get the ball and kick it forward as hard and as quick as possible and all I can say is play like that and I won't be renewing my season ticket. Incidentally can anyone tell me when our passing at the back has cost us a goal as I struggle to remember losing a goal playing like that but I do remember that our possession at the back as led to many goals because of controlled possession and its called football not kick it quick kick it far ball.

Absolutely. People bemoan us losing possession on occasion by playing it out from the back but it's a statistical fact that booting it long and retaining possession is a rare occurrence, coupled with the fact our fullbacks and midfield would be completely bypassed leaving Kane on his lonesome.

I understand it's irritating when it doesn't pay off but it's not as irritating as never seeing any of the ball.

I like possession football and I don’t mind slow build up play at certain stages in a game. But if we play out from the back, we should then look to do that a further 25 yards up the pitch from where we try to do it at the moment.

We don't get to choose where the other team presses us mate.

They press high. So w e either

A) go long to Llorente - who doesn't play for us any more.

Or

B) we cede possession by going long to Kane/Moura who will lose most of those contests (through no fault of their own).

OR

C) We try and play through their press. And, if we succeed, get at them.

A) We can't do anymore.

B) Is a losers game.

C) is trying to play football.

So I guess the question is do you want us to play football or re-sign Llorente?

I'm tired of reading posts where people don't actually acknowledge what the other team does. Yes, we look vulnerable against the best pressing team in the league. But we are trying to play football ffs. If we weren't we'd have signed Andy Carroll as a free agent.

It was a gutsy performance against the best team in the world.

We stuck in there, defended well on the whole and came away with a point.

Great result for us, especially in just the second game of the season.

Not a fan of long ball, but if we are talking statistics, there is a reason graham taylor became england manager.

How anyone can pass judgement this early is beyond me. I never expected a top performance today, it always takes a handful of games for us to get going. I just hate the international break that comes just as you're getting into the groove. I think we'll really start to see how good we can be when the CL starts and the games come thick and fast.

I'm very optimistic about this season. Today was a great result when we were far from our best which can only be a good thing. Son is back now, Alli and Sess will be back soon too. I just want the window to close in Europe so we can be certain of who is staying. The only thing that bothers me right now are the players with 1 year on their contracts. We need them to pull in the same direction as everyone else. The best indication of that would be to sign a new contract. Only then can we really be fully settled and focused on the season.

Missed the game as I had other things to attend. But it sounds like they outplayed us like they would outplay a team at the bortom at the table, yet it only ended in a draw.

We've been poor for so long; we can only go upwards from here. The start of the season was always about just hanging on the ropes and praying we would still be in the contest after the first few rounds. And that exactly what we have managed to do.

The team needs to step up now. Thoughest game of the season is out of the way, new signings are starting to get into the swing of things, top players coming back from injuries and suspensions. It's time to start playing at the level we're capable of playing at.

And poch needs to start getting his formations/line ups right. That's fundamental if we want to push ahead.
You should never let not seeing a game prevent you from having an opinion of it...

I thought we did well today considering what we were up against, albeit a bit lucky in the end to get the draw.

I thought walker peters did well, putting himself about more and some good dribbles from deep to help us get up the pitch. He was out muscled once by sterling and this continues to be his main weakness but hard to see him filling out much more now.

Looks like skip is the preferred dm sub so not sure what the future is for Dier.

Kane looks fitter and fresher than he had for years but didn’t get a sniff today

Be good to see sonny back next week, and I think we will just get better and better from here!

Feels good knowing we have got our hardest away game of the season out the way and all our rivals still have to go there!! Not a nice place, to come away with that point is massive. Kick on and get a convincing win against Newcastle next week before the derby.

pretty good effort and result considering who we played, where we played it, who was out of our squad and our new players not quiet settled in yet

Fantastic result in what should be the hardest game of the season.

If we become tough to beat away at the top 6 and beat them at home we will go far . Poch has had a good spell of getting results in these games now over the years

And also VAR if you had been around earlier maybe it wouldn’t have taken us so long to win at stamford bridge or old Trafford , i love var

Get son back next week which is grouse. Need a proper DM and I think Aurier needs to be first choice if he stays. I'd almost play Dier just to help screen the defence because the space between the lines is insane at times.
Really think we'll see the best out of Ndombele with Dier on the pitch. He's having to play too much defense with Winks and Sissoko out there.
