That mid-week result was much more harder to stomach though I am truly cheesed off with our away record at you know where grounds it is a nightmare. I generally just write Old Trafford Emirates Anfield Stamford Bridge off....sad

We have taken a step towards it but nights like what happened midweek and that game today suggest we are still some way from being the completed article, regardless of the fantastic results we have achieved under Poch so far.
Oh this sort of post gets on my tits the most. Like Utd didn't lose against Huddersfield and Chelsea didn't lose to Palace.
We lost to Utd and Chelsea in the Prem this season by a goal each, that's it. hardly results to hang our heads in shame. We have the best culture in the league. But we will lose games - everyone does. Well barring city that is. But we didn't put half a billion pounds in our current squad.

Is he really worth a lot more than some of our players who’ve proven more than he ever has? Even with taking into account wages adjustments for our own said players
Honest answer? Don't know. He's got pace, power, agility, and a venomous shot. I'd be interested to see what Poch could do with him.

I think most of our key players will be getting pay hikes over the next 12-18 months. Don't you?

And anyway, isn't Sissoko getting 90k, and what has he ever done for anybody?

This is so true, some fans expect us to win every single match and if we don't, then there must be something drastically wrong.
We've lost 2 games, to 2 of the most well financed clubs in world football.
To quote Poch: 'This is football'

Dunno who’s on what tbh but for example I doubt someone like alli earns more than £60k pw, now even with greater revenue it seems very unlevy like to bump a wage by 40%, would you pay Zaha more than an am who scored over 20 goals in a season at the age of 20, just doesn’t seem our style to me

As I said, we apparently pay Sissoko £90k a week. I bet that goes down a storm in the dressing room. If Alderweireld and Alli are still on £50k-£60k a week when next summer's transfer window opens, we are going to have very twitchy bums, aren't we?

We were good - I think Winks and Dembele will be an awesome centre. Sissoko's touch is quite poor but is attack minded. We need a little bit more subtle creativity in the final third. We lost because of a single switch off but otherwise defensively we were good.

If we had 1 or 2 more genuinely creative/pacy players in the final third (like a Martial) we would be an extraordinary side. Sons pace is a somewhat new threat as is Kane's new found turn of pace. Little bit more pace for eriksen and alli to have space to create would be amazing.

Well that was a very poor week for us! Every single one of our competitors picked up 3 points and we got zilch! Let’s hope next weekend is better!

With Man City playing Arsenal, Chelsea playing Utd and Liverpool away at West Ham we HAVE to beat Palace!

Too many players not at the races. Eriksen had a poor game. Dele and Son aren’t on the form they were last year. Sissoko for all his effort isn’t technically good enough for Spurs. Victor and Dembele have been a big loss. I’m not going to beat up on the defence too much. Dier, Verts and Toby all fucked up but have been solid for us. We move on to Madrid and keep fingers crossed Harry is fit and everyone raises their game for the occasion.

I think this is a problem that will go away next year. Wages are operational costs. Dan Levy is one switched on person. He gives players the big contracts and big bonuses when the time is right. When our stadium hits 62k we will have the earnings to pay out these wages. We just have the keep the squad together for another season or two and then we will really stride forward - am a big fan of Dan Levy for what he has done to transform our club from what we used to be in the 90s (when I started supporting us) to what we are now.

It gets on your tits that I said we still have some way to go? Ok, so do you disagree? You think we are ready to win trophies as things are right now?

I am not saying bad results don't happen, I am saying, nights like midweek where we blow a 2-0 lead because of immaturity and arrogance and days like today are the things that stop us from taking the next step.

It can "get on your tits" but it doesn't stop it being the truth, until nights like the one against Madrid start becoming a performance we can repeat on a regular basis against the top sides we won't be winning any trophies, that doesn't mean I am saying I expect us to get a result every single time we play a top side but it does mean that days like today, we have to be brave and give it our all, I don't think we did today, I don't think we played like we did against Madrid basically, we were a level below that performance.

We can all sit here and say how shit United were today and how it means nothing etc but, first of all, United have recently won a trophy, and secondly, a team that truly has aspirations for winning the league finds a way to win that today, by hook or by crook, at the very least, they get a draw from it.

United may finish below us still but what difference does it make if we still finish second? You don't get trophies for being runners up and for all the plaudits we get, we will end up winning nothing with this side unless we figure out a way to be more consistant against the bigger sides and win in situations where we can truly take advantage of the sides around us.

I think we are missing that final piece of the puzzle mentally. It might be an impossible job for him because historically (recently) we are a failure of a club. We simply don't have that winning aura and we just can't shake off this always lets you down sense despite us being a superb team these days. I hope he can instil this into the team/club but he himself hasn't won anything either as a manager.

I don't think him, the team or anyone in particular is to blame, the fact is Man Utd etc are one thing and we are another. Only way I can feasibly see it changing is by winning something, anything, other than that I don't know what can be done. It's pointing towards another year of nearly but nothing to show. 3 years in a row with no evidence of change.
Agree. It's why Poch's dismissal of the importance of the domestic cups (and The Europa League) is so frustrating and part of the problem. Teams that regularly win the big competitions started by winning the "lesser" compensations. Trophy winning is a habit just like match winning and you have to start somewhere. Winning 6 games and you win the League Cup or FA Cup whereas to win the league you have to be the best over 9 months and 38 games and to win the Champions league you have to come out on top over 6 league games, 3 2 legged rounds and a Final against the best in Europe. It's not rocket science to see where the best place to start winning trophies is.

Not really that simple though is it...you say win 6 games, it's six games on the spin, one loss and you're out, it's not the case with the league.
Poch is prioritising the league and CL because he believes it's achievable, you may not, but he's in a much better place to judge imo.

I respect the ambition but there's a sense of realism to be had here. We're in a season of transition - 38 away games essentially. Up against teams who outspend us significantly. I don't think there is anything wrong in saying 'lets go for the League/FA Cup' and no matter what happens in May we have a trophy to point to. We've fucked one of the two so FA Cup has to be a priority. I would take 4th and FA Cup than 2nd and nothing this season.

Get to the new stadium with CL football in the bag and a trophy in the cabinet is job done.
