I respect the ambition but there's a sense of realism to be had here. We're in a season of transition - 38 away games essentially. Up against teams who outspend us significantly. I don't think there is anything wrong in saying 'lets go for the League/FA Cup' and no matter what happens in May we have a trophy to point to. We've fucked one of the two so FA Cup has to be a priority. I would take 4th and FA Cup than 2nd and nothing this season.

Get to the new stadium with CL football in the bag and a trophy in the cabinet is job done.

I agree - it's just that I don't see us winning anything. Just don't see city dropping any points/losing games - except in the champions league. If they sign one John terry type centre back to replace otamendi (who isn't bad anyway) they will rule football in England for the next few years.

CL is the big one to Poch and the owners imo, trophy isn't as important to them, winning the FA or League cup doesn't bag you massive great sponsorship deals or exposure...being in the CL does.

Anyone thinking that our best players will want to stick around because they've got a league cup/fa cup winners medal is dreaming imo, we have players who are good enough to win the big prizes, and if they can't do it with us they will probably try to do it elsewhere. I think Poch knows this.

It's imperative to get CL with first season in the new stadium, that's why the league is taking priority I think.

It wouldn't be 'in the bag' as 4th would mean a play off;)

The dream would be to win the Champions League although it will feel weird to be crowned Champions of Europe before Champions of England

They did from what I saw, we went toe to toe with them and apart from one defensive error there wasn't much between us and a vastly better resourced team in Man Utd, a defensive error that is very uncharacteristic of us over the last couple of seasons.
The way some people are going on you'd think they spanked us four nil, I suppose a bit of perspective is too much for some.

I 100% agree but we've also only finished second about 4 times in our history so to do that again would be an amazing achievement for our club. But yeah I'd rather finish 4th and win the FA cup. It's scandalous we haven't won it since 1991

That sounds like Arsenal under Wenger and their 4th place trophy to me.

Pretty sure I read an article that he was the most dispossessed player in the league.

He goes for the risky stuff and sometimes it pays off but he needs to learn when to go for it now...
I would play him deep midfield if he plays against Real, but that does open up the danger of turnovers if he gets dispossessed.

The CL is the holy grail now for owners, sponsors and players alike not just winning it but just being involved in the competition, but I still think players like to win things to have something to show your family rather than point at a chart on a wall and say " I played in that once".
Unfortunately the money dictates everything these days which means you either try and compete or crash and burn, we are in a sort of middle ground where we can't win the big one's but are able to stay fairly competitive with the big boys except not away from home though.:)

You're not wrong, but I can only see an exodus of our big hitters were we to not qualify for CL, and I doubt a League Cup or FA Cup would change that unfortunately.
Fact of the matter is they've stuck around without a trophy so far.
Completely agree about the middle ground...and its a tricky situation to be in.

That's my concern we have done well to date no complaints there but if we keep just staying nearly men then players and poch may go, and then where does that leave us back to starting all over again.

And thats the unfortunate state we're in mate, until we can compete financially with the trophy winning regulars thats the risk we face.
