BBC Live Text
14:22 GOAL - Manchester City 6-0 Tottenham - Jesus Navas (90 mins)
The game finishes like it starts, with a Jesus Navas goal. Erik Lamela loses the ball at the other end with some attempted showboating and James Milner hits a long, probing ball that must travel 70 yards to Navas to fire home past Hugo Lloris.
14:52 SUBSTITUTION - Manchester City 5-0 Tottenham
Tottenham bring off striker Roberto Soldado and midfielder Paulinho for Gylfi Sigurdsson and Mousa Dembele. Back to one up front for Spurs now? Not that it matters.
Surprised Sandro has stayed on after his infamous first half.
14:45 GOAL - Manchester City 5-0 Tottenham - Alvaro Negredo
That is a stunning strike. Manchester City striker Alvaro Negredo gets the ball from Fernandinho and makes a fool out of Michael Dawson with a deft flick to find some space and he absolutely rifles the ball past Hugo Lloris.
14:40 GOAL - Manchester City 4-0 Tottenham - Sergio Aguero
Brilliant play for Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure. He plays a one-two with Alvaro Negredo and charges forward into the box. It never occurs to me that he's not going to shoot but he does absolutely the right thing and squares it to Sergio Aguero, who makes it 14 goals in 11 games.
SUBSTITUTION - Manchester City 3-0 Tottenham
Tottenham hand Emmanuel Adebayor his first club appearance of the season, against the side that still pay £95,000 per week towards his wages.
Midfielder Lewis Holtby is the man to be replaced - so that's two up front for Tottenham now. Is it too late for a turnaround
HALF-TIME - Manchester City 3-0 Tottenham
14:17 YELLOW CARD - Manchester City 3-0 Tottenham
Tottenham full-back Kyle Walker is the latest man to enter the yellow card club. Samir Nasris is trying to take a quick free-kick and Walker sticks his foot in from behind to intercept it. Stupid play by the England international.
14:15 YELLOW CARD - Manchester City 3-0 Tottenham
Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure loses possession and in his bid to win it back, hacks down Aaron Lennon. Howard Webb immediately books the Ivorian.
14:11 GOAL - Manchester City 3-0 Tottenham - Sergio Aguero
Pablo Zabaleta feeds Jesus Navas down the right and the winger's cross evades Younes Kaboul and is guided home by Sergio Aguero from close range.
14:10 YELLOW CARD - Manchester City 2-0 Tottenham
Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen enters the book for a challenge on Pablo Zabaleta. This game is really getting away from the visitors now.
14:05 GOAL - Manchester City 2-0 Tottenham - Sandro own goal (34 mins)
Oh no, could Sandro's day get any worse? City break forward after another poor clearance by Tottenham keeper Hugo Lloris and ALvaro Negredo's shot hits first Tottenham defender Younes Kaboul and then Sandro and ends up in the net.
13:51 YELLOW CARD - Manchester City 1-0 Tottenham
Tottenham midfielder Sandro is the first player to be booked for a foul on Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero.
13:32 GOAL - Manchester City 1-0 Tottenham - Jesus Navas (1 min)
Manchester City lead within 14 seconds. Tottenham keeper Hugo Lloris kicks the ball straight to Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero. The Argentine's shot is saved by Lloris but Jesus Navas lofts in a wonderful chip from the edge of the box to make it 1-0. Remarkable start.

Manchester City see home run tested by Tottenham

Manchester City will put their perfect home record on the line against fellow title hopefuls Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

City boast an unblemished record at the Etihad Stadium this season, with five outings bringing 15 points and 20 goals.

They have conceded just twice during that run, and it is their form in front of their own supporters which is keeping them in the race for the Premier League crown.

Setbacks on the road have seen City fall six points off the pace, but they will feel that things could be a lot worse and that there is still plenty more to come from them this season.

The same could be said for Tottenham, with Andre Villas-Boas' troops yet to hit top gear.

A defensive record which has seen Spurs breached just six times bodes well ahead of a meeting with free-scoring City, but it is at the opposite end of the field that questions remain.

Rather surprisingly, given the attacking and creative options at their disposal, Spurs have found the target on just nine occasions so far and need to find a spark from somewhere if they are to mount a sustained push for a top-four finish.

news.jpg

Tottenham
Danny Rose is back in contention after a lengthy spell on the sidelines but Tottenham are unlikely to rush him back in for a crucial contest, meaning Jan Vertonghen will continue at left-back. (AVB has said another 2-3 weeks...)

Christian Eriksen could be out of action until Christmas after picking up an ankle injury while on international duty with Denmark.

Nacer Chadli continues to nurse a hamstring problem, while there is no news on when out-of-favour frontman Emmanuel Adebayor will be available again after picking up a knock in training at the end of October.

Manchester City
Manchester City had Sunday's game pencilled in for the return to action of skipper Vincent Kompany from a thigh injury, but doubts remain over his fitness.

David Silva has sat out the Blues' last two fixtures with a calf complaint and is unlikely to be risked, with it suggested that he requires another 10 days of recovery.

City boss Manuel Pellegrini clearly has some big selection decisions to make, and he must also rule on whether Joe Hart's performance for England against Germany on Tuesday makes him deserving of recall ahead of Costel Pantilimon.

bbc.jpg

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini has refused to say whether he will recall Joe Hart but has hinted Costel Pantilimon will keep his place in goal.

Injured trio Vincent Kompany, David Silva and Stevan Jovetuc remain out.

Tottenham are without Christian Eriksen, who will be out for four weeks with sprained ankle ligaments.

Vlad Chiriches could also be sidelined after breaking his nose against Newcastle, but fellow defender Danny Rose is back in training.

preview.jpg

Manchester City's fifth league defeat last season came against Tottenham, but that's merely a coincidental footnote to this fixture. The main point is that it came on 21 April, with loss number four having not been suffered until March.

In historical and statistical terms, with four defeats already City's chances of regaining the title aren't great - even at this relatively early stage of what could be one of the most open seasons for years.

No team has been crowned English champions having lost four or more of their first 11 games since the 1967-68 season. That team was City though!

Joe Mercer's side had been beaten five times by this stage (in a 42-game season) but went on to win the league by two points from Manchester United. Where there's precedent there can be optimism.

Spurs' confidence has been hit by two games without a win, although they'll look at the 1-0 reverse to Newcastle a fortnight ago as just one of those games.

They fired 31 shots towards Tim Krul's goal with no reward, as the Dutchman played a blinder.

Will it be Costel Pantilimon or a recalled Joe Hart in the way for this one? City boss Manuel Pellegrini has hinted that the Romanian, left out by his country this week as Hart played for England, will keep his place.

Spurs' shot tally against Newcastle told the story of their season really. No team has tried to score more often and yet, prior to this weekend, only the bottom two - Sunderland and Crystal Palace - had scored fewer goals.

It's strange, bordering on bizarre, that a side can bang in 23 goals in eight cup matches this season but only score nine in 11 league games!

City have a perfect home record, Spurs are better away. City score more goals than anyone else, Spurs keep the most clean sheets.

As with so many games this season, it's impossible to call with certainty.

facts.jpg

Head-to-head

  • Tottenham have lost their last three league visits to Manchester City, having won on seven of their previous nine trips.
  • The last four meetings have produced a total of 18 goals - 11 for City, and seven for Spurs.
Manchester City

  • City are the only team in the top four divisions of English football with a perfect home record this season.
  • They have scored 20 times and conceded twice in their five league matches at the Etihad Stadium this term.
  • They have scored in 55 consecutive Premier League home games since a 0-0 draw with Birmingham in November 2010.
  • Of the 114 different players to have scored at least 40 Premier League goals, only Thierry Henry (122) has a better minutes per goal average than Sergio Aguero (123).
Tottenham Hotspur

  • Prior to this weekend, only Arsenal (13) had claimed more points away from home than Tottenham (10) this season.
  • The only league goal Spurs have conceded on their travels this season was scored by Olivier Giroud in a 1-0 defeat at Arsenal on 1 September.
  • Against Newcastle, Tottenham attempted 31 shots, including 14 on target.
  • Before this weekend, Spurs had attempted more shots at goal (157, excluding blocked efforts) than any other Premier League side. However, they also had the lowest conversion rate (5.7%).

Sums up the anticipated reaction to this game perfectly.

I must admit to feeling rather disillusioned at the moment and very seriously considering not watching this one. Not missed a league game for 5 or so seasons but just can't get excited or enthused about watching us.

Hope we get a good result though obviously.

I probably just need some time off to reset my expectations to realistic instead of optimistic.

Dafuq?

I guess it's easier than asking us to play better.

Really looking forward to seeing the workmen like Sig and Holtby 'working hard' and 'doing a job' tomorrow; what an exciting prospect Spurs games are at the moment.

Should be a good game with two teams playing attacking football - Sorry to say Man City will win, I have down as 3-0. I just cannot see SPURS getting anything here - Ah well, looking forward to the AVB out comments and the melt down that takes place afterwards.

If AVB persists to rely on players who have created and scored very few goals this calendar year (Townsend, Lennon, Holtby, Dembele, Defoe), then you can forget about winning this game, as well as the United game next weekend.

It'll be down to Paulinho and Soldado to get us a goal in this game. Paulinho looked great for Brazil this past week, so I think he'll do well tomorrow. I'd love to see Chadli, Lamela and Soldado playing up top, with Sandro, Capoue and Paulinho in the midfield. It won't happen though.

He's going to play Townsend, Holtby and Siggy behind Soldado. Only way that could get worse is if you change one for Lennon. Would love to be wrong as that's an awful trio against city
