That was sensational by Ronaldo. No other word for it. Monster.

Just imagine if he'd put one like that past Robbo, We'd have any number of posts questioning his positioning and weight.

Fine free kick, although the keeper looked to be unsighted and wrong footed himself as he tried to dive the other way. Sporting did have a good goal disallowed for offside, suppose that goes with the territory at Old Trafford.

Anyone reckon we could beat Sporting if they dropped into the UEFA cup?

probably, but it won't be easy ^ i'm a sporting fan as well as spurs, and though spurs have a better attack, i'd say sporting have a much better midfield with Moutinho and Veloso. That keeper that was playing last night Patrico, he's actually our 3rd choice keeper, but considering he's only 19 he did extremely well last night

Off topic, but what do you think about Bruno Alves (Porto CB) as a possible CB option for Spurs? I know he isn't the most well respected CB in Portugal and is often criticised, but from what i've seen his aerial ability would be a real asset in the Prem and he is far less mistake prone than our current options. Given your knowledge or Portuguese football, do you think his game is suited to prem football and would you think he would make a good option for us?

you're right a lot of people in portugal criticise alves, but i think thats more down to an anti-porto feeling among scummy benfica fans than anything else. Alves is definately good enough, with the exception of King i'd say he's better than anything we have right now. He always puts in 100% and like you said he's great in the air, i wouldn't get so nervous with each corner and freekick against us if we had Alves in our defence lol.

And you'll never see him turn his back on the ball like our defenders like to do lol. He isn't the fastest of players though, but he always seems to be in the right position and isn't scared of getting stuck in. Personally i rate him highly, almost as good as carvalho or andrade, definately higher than Rocha lol.

He's 26 though, so if we go for him, sooner the better, but he won't leave Porto in janurary.

Sadly that's going to be the case with virtually every decent player in Europe. From what i've seen i'd like us to sign him. How much would you imagine we'd have to pay?

well his partner in defence last season, Pepe, went to Real Madrid for £22 million and he's only 2 years younger than Alves. Anderson went for like £17 million and they reportedly turned down a £15 million offer for Quaresma, so Porto aren't a team who will let their best players go for cheap. He'll cost a ton of money, we may as well stick with Rocha or maybe see if we can get Rolando from Belenenses than spend all that money on Alves.

I don't know of Rolando, so can't comment, but he is young and i think we could do with a bit of experience. I like the look of Diego Lugano at Fenerbache. I don't think we should put off by high prices. At the end of the day it is better to pay a large fee for a player who can do the job than pay mid to high fee's for players who can't. Look at the goal we concdeded on Sunday. £16 million worth of talent (Kaboul and Zokora) conspired to give a goal away. A top quality player in either postion would have prevented that from happening.
