What a wonderful second half. If I could sum up that whole game, it would be that when they were on top, which was the majority of the first half, we defended with resolution and organisation, but when we were on top, they left gaps, tackled weakly and couldn't cope with Lucas' pace and Kane's strength.

Until Lucas scored the third, I was tempted to choose Alderweireld as my man of the match. He was back to his best and it was really our defending that won us that game. Man Utd had 57% possession and 23 shots (!) to our 9. We needed to defend well and we did.

But many of us here have been saying for a couple of years that we needed a really speedy, skilful player to take the team to the next stage. Lucas is that player. Son is going to have quite a time getting back into the starting 11. But what I didn't expect was a prolific goal-scorer. He's playing nearly as a striker and has many qualities that are reminiscent of Defoe at his best, but with a better sense of space and more ball control.

It's hard to think of a team that is capable of keeping the attacking force of Eriksen, Kane, Lucas and Dele in a box for 90 minutes. And if it isn;t one of them, there aee Lamela and Son, who are as good on their day.

The only disappointment today was in midfield. Dembélé was good after half time, but didn't really impose himself until we scored. Dier was conservative, even a bit timid. Eriksen and Alli, when they dropped back into midfield, passed inaccurately. Man Uts took steps to prevent us from getting the ball to Tripper and Rose in space -it wasn't until Trippier dropped back and passed to Eriksen in space on the right flank that we won the corner that led to Kane's goal and then immediately produced the cross that led to Lucas' first goal.

A great result and a fascinating case study of how defensive organisation and attackers with mental strength can win you games, even when you don't have control of the ball.

Look at the stats. Then look at the score. Extraordinary. It's a team that finds different ways to win.
this is actually a perfect representation of today’s game

Frankly I am dying to see how Winks blooms. I think he is the next kid on the block.

He offers a lot more than Jermain ever did.
Has pace, vision, determination, and can head a ball. Defended from the front but also good at defending corners.
He could just be what we have been missing but need to see it over a longer period before saying definitely

And he wasn’t caught offside tonight. Not even once. :cautious:

COYS...Smash these prima donna's.

Nice assured display, with quick, accurate, penetrative passing. Score a few and be a bitch at the back.

Nicely rounded off with a pissed off presser from Mourinho post match.

Extraordinary. Put everything you own on a lottery ticket.

For all the panicking you guys were doing until the 50th. We turned the game on it’s head. Brilliant game. Utterly brilliant. Whatever Poch said at half worked. We go next week. Another win, please.

It was a strange feeling when Rose buggered up that back pass let through Lukaku.

A feeling of calmness - I was sure he was going to miss and he did - thankfully.

Disagree. Think footballers who thank gods come off as pricks. If their god helped them win a football match, but keeps murdering babies - why are they thanking him?
Why do you watch football then I think you’ll find the majority of football players believe in a god

every Brazilian is going to be a believer and praise god he does the hands to the Sky thing every time he comes on or scores I’m sure Kaka use to do the same

"Three times! Respect! Respect! Respect!" is the new "Five times!" Love to see Mourinho that mad.

Great game from the boys today! Most of the attention from the media will be on United, but if that means we fly under the radar until Liverpool, then so be it. I prefer them having a chip on their shoulder.
