Can anybody shed some light on him? I've always been impressed whenever i've seen him play and recently started to think that he could do a good job for us. But Benfica seem to not want him in their squad, preferring to constantly loan him out (which seems strange for a player they rate at £10M). Portsmouth barely played him even though he looked good when they did, apparently due to some deal which meant they had to sign him if they played him 3 times in a row. Now Everton have decided they dont want to sign him either, even though he was superb against ManUre and seemed to have a great all round game and scored a cracker as well. I think someone on here mentioned he played well against the scum, but I haven't seen that game.

So can somebody please explain to me why nobody seems to want to sign him permanently. Is it a wage issue? Medical reasons? Does anybody else think he would be a good signing for us?

Fernandes is a very good player, and I was surprised he wanted to go to a Club like Everton rather than continue at Portsmouth. If he was avalible for a reasonalble fee, he would be a good buy.

Surely Everton is a step up from Portsmouth. You only have to look at the final league table to see that. What makes you think otherwise?

Fernandes is owned by two different parties. One is Benfica and the other is either a business man or a group of investors, i'm not sure which. Benfica want £6 million for him and the investors want £6 mil that's what he's so expensive.

I thought it was illegal to field a player in the premiership who is owned by two different parties, i'm not sure if he's gotten away with it so far because no one outside of portugal knows about it or what but he's not 100% benfica owned.

even if he was at scummy benfica he is an exceptional player. He can play on either wing, defensive midfield (altho he's not the best tackler) and he can play 'in the hole' he has a real good shot on him, but imo his best position is centre-attacking midfield, he can go on good runs right through the other team.

Benfica, or their fans at least, want fernandes to go back to da luz but benfica are in a lot of debt, the investors probably want some money and the player himself has said he wants to stay in england.

sorry bout the big post.. i'd love to see him at Spurs though, maybe Rocha can have a word lol

I surely rate Portsmouth as a better team then Everton even though Everton finiched higher in the league.

Cheers, that does seem to explain a few things. I still think £12M would be money well spent and everything you have said seems to re-affirm that. The step up to take us into the top 4 will require some big purchases to be made and only spending £6M will probably not get us someone who will improve our squad.

He does look the tits, and with some work rate too.

I would assume Nugent was top of Moyes' priority list, and at £12m Fernandes is just too expensive with so many other areas Everton need to buy players for as they already have McFadden, Osman and Cahill as creative midfielders.

I would love to see him at the lane, and I can see Levy being able to get him for about £9m if they want £12m.

Looks like Everton are going to get him on the cheap now. How come we aren't being linked to him? He would be the ideal player for our midfield. Come on DC, hijack the deal - maybe chuck in Ghaly and Zoko as well?
