Posted this map in the New Stadium discussion. It might be useful as a general reference to our non-uk supporters who might want to see where we come from and how we overlap with Arsenal and to a lesser extent West Ham. I don't think this research is supposed to be definitive but I agree with the situation re Arsenal in Hackney where I was born.

Shift to General football if need be.

Interesting. My family are all from Tower Hamlets, and they're spurs.

The thing it doesn't show is that more of our support comes from (particularly the northern) home counties.

It says on there "and some guesses" which is a bit of an understatement.

As I recall this map needs to be qualified, it is not a representation of the most populace support in an area it is where most of the support for a club is.
For example most Orient support comes from the local area as shown but that area is not exclusively Orient far from it in fact and most support in that area is for other clubs, our support spreads from Uxbridge to Redbridge and beyond and in large numbers too.

Nice idea but looks like total nonsense to me. I know that it's referring to 'traditional' support whatever that means but it looks a tad simplistic.

...err Fulham gets its support from...Fulham. Tottenham gets its support from...Tottenham!

As Dan Ashcroft rightly points out, a huge amount (probably most) of our support comes from the Northern home counties. This pattern began and has continued since the 1950s when people began moving out into the New towns in large numbers; Harlow, Stevenage, broxbourne, Hatfield, Hemel etc.

Oh and who are Tottenham Hotspurs?

By that map WHU are hugely supported and should be packing out a 80K seater week in & out not struggling to rub 2 nikels together

South East London - Crystal Palace?? im sure there just looking at the "local team"
Croydon would be Chelsea/Arsenal or Man United (probably most of london would be full of Glory Hunters)

That was my point in my earlier post, West Ham aren't supported that heavily (100% apparently) in those areas it's just that those are the only areas where the highest percentage of their fans come from it's the only area where there is any concentration of West Ham Fans.
An example is Essex which is often cited as West Ham hinterland but in Chelmsford, the county town, there is a club shop in the High Street, it's a Spurs shop!! There are more Spurs fans in Essex than West Ham but a High proportion of West Ham fans live in Essex so that map, if extended and using the same criteria, would show Essex in their colour.

I was looking for years for such a map. It's a good effort, thanks for posting the link.

I think though it's obsolete these days. It would have made much sense back in, say, the 30s or even 50s, when the population mobility was significantly lower and football allegiances largely depended on locality.

This map is clearly speculative as the poster claim it to "show traditionall supporters and
no glory hunters". How does he know? Questions included in census? And could anyone help me with a guess what are those THFC and WHU isolated spots in Barnet?

Only link I've got to London is a few in-laws in Berkhamstead and St. Alban - does this mean that's more or less Spurs territory? (They support Arsenal, Chelsea, Man U and Liverpool, the bastards...)
