Catalan newspaper, Sport, have linked Bartra with us today. Because he has only played a certain amount of games his release clause is reported tio have dropped, as part of his contract, to around €10 million.

Firtsly I would have little optimism that he would chose to come to Spurs from Barca, secondly there would be so many interested Clubs if he was available for that price.

But he would be a fantastic signing IMO, and I have previously said i'd have liked to have signed him when there were tenuous links in the past.

A ball playing CB, only 24 but with loads of experience and strong in the tackle. He can fill at RB too.

Would definitely advocate this signing, although see little prospect of it being a possibility.

Hasn't played too much this season, but a few clips above from the 14/15 season. 4mins onwards shows his quality on the ball.

Never heard of the lad but he's been getting some appearances in the league which is pretty impressive for Barcelona. Any seem him play regularly?

We were quite heavily linked to him a few years ago weren't we?

Just no no no, not good enough. Different position but Montoya (right back) has come on leaps and bounds this season. Bartra on the other hand is the equivalent of Pavon, the once homegrown Real Madrid centre back who was nowhere near the grade required.

He has actually played a few games this season; mainly because Pique was out of shape though. Thing is, Barca's defenders are exactly in the class of Messi, Neymar, Inieste or Xavi (though Alves is a quality RB and Allba a good LB and now that Pique is back in shape a top class CB).
PS! I do know Baca has the best defensive record in La Liga-

@Davo99 I don't think you have watched Barca a lot over the few seasons and seen how their defense have let them down time and again

I think Barcas attackers are in a class of their own. Their defenders are good, but not otherworldly good like Messi, Neymar, and Suarez.

Eric Dier Mk2 by the sound of it. No Thanks.

Edit; (Seems people are getting the wrong idea with this post. Read the one 3 posts down to get what I'm saying).

Hard to find a better CB than Pique in any league whether it be Spain, England or Italy. I'd have a half hearted Pique in our team anyday.

Nothing at all, which is why I don't think we need a second one. Unless this guy is a big upgrade it seems a completely pointless signing IMO.

With Chiriches and Kaboul likely to leave and our best CB youth prospects not ready to step up to the 1st team yet, I think he would be a very good signing, to compete alongside Verts, Dier and Fazio. In fact he could potentially be a successor to Verts in the future IMO.

I notice that he is only 6 ft tall. I say "only" but you know what I mean.
I would prefer someone taller, to allow us aerial domination. I am not, in any sense, denying the need for a good, quick, ball player. It's just I would prefer someone who can win headers as well.

If we're getting defenders from Barca I'd prefer Montoya

He'd certainly be a good buy, but we havent had reports we are shifting Walker/ DeYedlin- and the reason Bartra has hit the press is because his contract clauses are allowing such a small transfer fee. What would you expect Montoya to go for if sold this window?

I think he is awful. I know there are a couple punters that just back against Barcelona or pick Both Teams to Score when he starts. Some of his performances in 2014, especially against the bigger teams, were shocking. Honestly, if there is one position I wouldn't follow Barcelona on, it's center back.

Bartra is also the one that Bale humiliated when he scored at the Camp Nou.

what we lack at the back is leadership. If there is a space for an incoming player that's what we should be looking for IMO.

I can concur with that, i'm not sure what that side of his game would be like.

I'm not saying that this is in anyway a negative of Bartra as it's happened to some of the best defenders in the world in recent years (Maicon, Ferdinand etc), but anyone remember Bale destroying this lad last year!

Yeah, he embarrassed him. But as you say, every defender he has faced over the last 3/4 years has had moments like that-just not on such a big stage!
