Difficult to say - I remember seeing Kane coming on as a sub for Leicester when on loan and thinking he wouldn't even make it as a lower league player!

Kane's a totally different breed of player to Marcus tbh, biggest reason why Kane made it is because he had the belief and the mentality to succeed. So far we haven't seen that from Marcus, hopefully he grows up a bit and learns from this loan.

Completely different, Kane had already had successful loans and had already played a few times for Tottenham at Europa/Cup level...Edwards has done nothing at 1st team level anywhere of note as yet.

He does make things happen out of nothing so you never know.

The loan has positives as well, as negative he has more experience, has shown flash of potential brilliance. I know we would all like to have seen him light up the league and that has not happened, his is young and in a foreign country playing men’s football.

Thing is that don't believe he has actually shown a flash of potential brilliance whilst on his loans.
Current started fine but with no end product.
Just hope this all makes him realise he has to put in the effort to get the reward - natural talent, which he undoubtedly had, only gets you so far.

I find this all really hard to work out. So for example I don't think Kane ever looked good with his loans and when I saw him play for us he never looked like scoring, was slow, awkward looking and at best a Championship player. Clearly for Kane a number of things came together and suddenly the last pice of the jigsaw came into place. So I guess there is hope that the talent within Marcus will come to fruition and certainly at this stage of his career it's worth us trying everything

Agreed. Looking at Kane back in the day, I thought 'Lee Barnard'.
After that penalty miss against Hearts, I was 'The boy started at the top and will work his way down... to Southend United.'

It feels like these young players need to do just enough to be given another chance until they sort themselves out physically and psychologically. Noone can tell now if Marcus turns out a Rooney, a Bentley, a Barnard or a Michael Johnson.

got 25 mins off the bench today, his first appearance for six weeks or so. came on at 0-2, which soon became 0-3, not that the goal had anything to do with him. thought he was bright as usual at least trying to make something happen for a flat team, had a couple of efforts which went narrowly past the post - which you can see here. had some other little bits of nice play, he really just needs one of these to shots to roll for him. i still have faith that it will click for him in the future, at which point he will be the kind of player that teams are clamouring for.

Indeed, the type of player he could become is so rare and so valuable that I feel it would be criminal of spurs not to persevere with him and show way beyond the usual patience afforded to young unproven players. If he makes it he could make it in a very very big way, so the potential rewards easily justify whatever it costs to try and make it happen (peanuts compared to modern day transfer fees).
Personally, and if by all reports he is homesick and too anxious to give an interview, I don't think he should be in Netherlands at all. He could suffer mental health problems unnecessarily and needs better pastoral care to build his confidence off the pitch. Being dumped in a totally alien environment will make some stronger but doesn't work for everyone and, evidently in this case, he is among the latter.

I don't like the "end product" argument. When Ronaldo was new at united every commentator would refer to doubts about his "end product". All that matters is whether there is some valuable product. Does he create space, does he pass when he should, spot the right one, shoot when he should etc... you can't read or record that in any shitty football stats which are the bane of modern day football analysis

He was shipped to Holland to get him away from the influences in his home life.

More truth than you think
I'm not expecting you to reply to this, but I do get the feeling that he has been advised badly, and perhaps was given the erroneous impression that he was further along than he really was.

That the value you gain from loans. You get to see how good you really are and also you get to challenge yourself and learn from from those experiences. IMO the loan move was way better than the alternative of keeping him with the U23s for another season.

There’s a time when you have to grow a pair and make up your own mind. Too easy to blame others for your misgivings

True but he's still a young chap. It doesn't have to be one or the other.

Loved the way he got the ball out from under his feet there and a confident finish. Hopefully he can kick on

Oh and can we all agree that that was end product :)
