So Hughes will have to win at least a trophy within two seasons of taking the job otherwise he won't be any better than Jol and would also have to be shown the exit door.

Im not sure thats necessarily true. I think if we could defend properly and didnt continue to throw away leads through lack of concentration etc... Jol would still have a job and none of this would have come about.

Mourinho - Unlikely
Klinsmann - Unlikely
Lippi - Unlikely
capello - Unlikely (dull football also)
Ramos - Unlikely now

Who does that leave then? We've got to be realistic!

hughes isn't my first choice, but is what we need.

Boothroyd would be my choice if he had a bit of premiership experience.

It's a very short term attitude to just get someone in to fix immediate problems though isn't it? Going from one extreme to the other? We need a long term manager who can build on Jol's good work.

I didnt mention i want him for the short term.

so your happy we have individuals that aren't ready to dig in?

I think players like AL and Berbs wiil dig in and give everything in games, it's just they are not doing so at the moment and none of our players are at their best anyway. Who's job is it to get the best out of the players? The head coach/manager.

At least Sparky would give them a good kick up the *rse and weed out the ones who really weren't giving everything and drop/sell them immediately. No-one gets a game on reputation at blackburn, they have to prove their worth, week in/week out.

I doubt he'dcome to us mid-season, but he's done well up there and maybe fancies a go with a bit more money behind him, like big Sam did.

I'm not ITK, but..

Can you truly confirm anything else?

Can an ITK ever truly confirm anything?

The answer to both is no (EDIT: I can't believe I wrote 'know' - slipping standards). But if you want to suggest that you've heard we're interested in another manager, or your Gran has seen them at an airport, then by all means, post away.

But it's not a secret club for asking for people for information. I'd like to think we've bred a culture of sharing information.

I'm dumbfounded as to why the majority are against this? He's done a good job at Blackburn bar the Wafer debacle. They play some good stuff and know how to defend.

He seems like a manager who calls a spade a spade and not a media puppet. I bet he'd bang some heads together because by God they need it.

We could do a lot worse, would be interesting to see how he'd do with a decent budget behind him.

agreed - again!

Hughes has a excellent record against the top 4 and gets far more passion out of his team then Jol does. Berbs is a goner this xmas, i saw it coming at the beginning of the season, no point factoring him in.......bring on our expensive Bent! Time of defoe to answer his critics....

Why would we take Huges when he'd happily do a Carrick on us. Never liked him as a player (dirty, dirty, dirty) and definitely don't like him as a manager, no class and his team play like he did (dirty, dirty, dirty).
You all talk about his superb record as a basis for supporting this potential move, but it should be remembered that, as stats go, Jol is one of our best.
And for all you that keep going on about Lippi and Cappello - if you think we could get them, do you not reckon we would have by now!?

Is someone in the "Hughes is a realistc option for us" group going to tell me why they think this? Forgetting about whether he is the right choice or not for a minute... to those in this group, allow me to break it down for you.

Blackburn: 6th in the table
Us: 18th in the table
Difference: 12 places and miles ahead of us

Hughes has been at Blackburn since 2004, has done a great job with them and they don't look like merely an average team at the present time. What in this world is making you think that he would want to leave his good work behind there and come to us???? You take him as some fickle crock or something? Come on, I'm just being a realist here!

Agreed. But we have European football (for now) after they lost to Clarissa Explains It All.

Bar your short term outlook on the difference between the teams Jol has had a better record with the 2 5th place finishes. So why is Mark Hughes a better option all of a sudden?

Mark Hughes, with all the good will in this world, would sound the END of Tottenham as a football team....YES, we will win a Cup or 2 and become regular competitors in the Uefa and smaller Cups aka Blackburn Hotspur! To make matters worse, I can see him taking 3 points from us in the upcomming match.....adding insult to injury.......Nice guy but shame about the 'style' (or lack of it!) COYS!

Yes, but surely after being there for four seasons, further UEFA cup qualification will be something he'll want to achieve for them before dumping them into a shit heap like people on here are suggesting.
