Martin Jol has rejected an offer to become head coach at PSV Eindhoven after holding talks with the club.

Instead, the former Tottenham manager is hoping to take charge of Holland when Marco van Basten steps down following the European Championship finals next summer.

Waiting game: Martin Jol favours managing Holland or another team in the Premier League

Jol is considered one of the favourites for the national team job, having been spoken to twice by the Dutch Football Association.

He would also favour waiting until the summer before taking another managerial post due to a clause in his severance package with Spurs that could result in his reported £4.7 million golden handshake reduced should he coach another side too soon.

Should Jol miss out on coaching Holland it is thought he would favour taking charge of another Premier League side, rather than a leading club in the Netherlands.

Meanwhile, the League Managers Association, whose help Jol sought when it was revealed Tottenham were actively pursuing Juande Ramos to take over at White Hart Lane, has supported Fifa's proposal to stop managers resigning and then immediately taking charge at another club.

Fifa president Sepp Blatter is said to be furious that Ramos left Sevilla for Tottenham and Ronald Koeman quit PSV for Valencia so suddenly and feels managers should be subjected to the same restrictions as players and move in a designated transfer window.

Some Dutch guys (PSV fans) on another forum said this had happend a few days ago. According to them, he didn't quite turn the job down, but said he'd take it, but only in the summer, whilst PSV wanted to appoint a new coach now.

To be honest i think he's silly to turn it down. Their a big club in the champions league, and if he's succesful he'll easily get the holland job.

You've got to remember that Jol didn't play pro football when wages were high and other than a short stint at Bayern when he was young, he never played for a big club. So he won't have been at all financially secure when he quit playing. He then coached amateur football and then a couple a relatively small Dutch clubs. His salary would have been nothing to write home about. So Spurs would have been his first job that offered him the chance to secure not only his own financial future, but his families aswell. Joining PSV means it's going to have an effect on his pay off from Spurs, so the financial aspect is something he'd have to take into account more than a lot of coaches. I'm sure his pride and desire are to get straight back into it, but he's got a young daughter etc, so the financial implications have to have a big influnce on him.

I hadnt realised there was a clause in the pay off, is it that he cant take a job this season similar to Mourinho?

Obviously we can't be sure of the exact details, but apparently so. That is the reason given by the Dutch posters I mentioned earlier. PSV wanted him now and he couldn't take the job until the summer.
