Sounds a shame really. I'd read that he'd been performing well for our under 21's a loan opportunity was always going to be on the cards to see what he can do - Doesn't look as though he's taken it.

Any views on what his options are now? will he be kept on for another year?

Problem Spurs have got is that if you add together the current professionals plus the approx 10 from this year's Academy Year 2 (which assumes 6 or 7 are not given contracts) who will be given new Professional contracts it makes a total of over 30 Professionals (which is a lot).

Parrett and a few others are now 21 and will need to be registered in the squad of 25 to play.

There are also other good youngsters coming up who play in similar positions to Parrett. Its possible he may be given another year if we can arrange a decent loan, but I think we could let a couple of the Professional go this summer if we do not think thety can progress further with us, so as to give opportunities to the up and coming youngsters. Its a shame though, but of the guys coming into the academy only 10% - 20% (max) will get to play in the first team, so there will always be some casualties.

Yep, it's always been the case. I'm just hoping (and the early signs are good) that the standard coming through will keep improving from where we were 10-15 years back. I think we're making some big strides in this regard, so when we finally reap the benefits it will be a really proud time for us as a club IMO.

Early signs are that the standard coming through is definitely better than it was 10 or 15 years ago - Steven Caulker, Jake Livermore, Andros Townsend, Tom Carroll all within a couple of years (and undoubtadly more to follow), after getting about one youngster into the first team each decade !

RE Parrett its clear from the fans forums that whilst they were not enamoured with Parrett (but imo he was ok, not as good as we might have hoped but certainly not a disaster), their biggest gripe is with the manager - everything from changing from di Canio's 442 formation which he had got good results with through to (much poorer) results. DP might even be a scapegoat to get the fans off the manager's back for a while.

Interesting change in Swindon's formation to 442 - maybe my manager under pressure had more than a grain of truth in it.

Luongo starts as cm, Byrne at RB

Genuine question here, but do other clubs in our position have the same hit-or-miss record with loaning players out? I mean, I know we have loaned out more than almost anybody else, but are Man U loanees like Petrucci or McCullough getting games for their loan clubs?

4 starts and a goal since beginning of January for Petrucci.

Manchester United have recalled Luke McCullough from his loan spell with Cheltenham Town.

The 19-year-old made just one appearance as a substitute during his stint with the League Two side.

"I want to thank Manchester United and Luke," Cheltenham manager Mark Yates told the club's official website.

"Both have been superb and we totally understand why the reasoning for the recall. Luke has had to be very patient but we were happy to have him round here and I hope the experience of being around a first team has been beneficial for him

So these two have not fared well on loan - Petrucci espacially since he was brought from Roma.

Others such as da Silva http://www.soccerbase.com/players/player.sd?player_id=49787 have fared better at QPR. Michael Keane is doing ok at Leicester http://www.soccerbase.com/players/player.sd?player_id=62462 but arguably less well than Harry Kane did last year (at a year younger) at Millwall in a half season loan.

So there are no loans where success is necessarily guaranteed.

But I still think that we can ask questions of Spurs over some loans - Mason to Lorient (this season), NMason (Millwall last season), Fredericks (Brentford this season) etc where it appears the player does not fit the team's formation well.

Thanks SI, very interesting. It's clear that Spanish clubs have an advantage in being able to play a B side at a decent level. I think the obvious way to go is to buy an appropriate club abroad - á la Udinese with Watford.

Quote from a Swindon forum, general consensus is favourable..

"But Luongo is a cut above. Excellent on the ball, always seems to have time, always seems to know who to pass it too, always running. He'll be a prem player no diggity doubt"

Liking the sounds of Luongo, hopefully in the 21's, occasional cup game and getting some random junk time minutes in the first team early next year, before a PL loan for the back half of the season. probably a bit early for all of that but fingers crossed

Australia cold sure do with him continueing to progress too, we've got F-all in midfield!

I would like to see us ship off Livermore and give Luongo a squad place next season, as he has far more potential.

Luongo has great potential - but limited experience. Looked really good for Ipswich in the Championship and unlucky for that loan to end early due to Ipswich needing more expeerienced players - but quite a few Ipswich fans think he is as good as the more experienced players brought in. Looking good too at League 1 Swindon.

However would be really surprised if AVB were to play him in the first team in front of the far more experienced Livermore - AVB has not played the likes of Carroll that much this season even tihoughg Carroll had more experience that Luongo.

Think Luongo should play pre-season with the first team but after that think he needs a loan - unfortunately would be surprised if he got a PL loan due to his limited experience in the Championship, but he would certainly light up any Championsship side on loan.
