Swindon have bought Bryne, also trying to get Luongo on a permanent.

Best of luck to Nathan Byrne - cannot see him making it at Spurs (but could be wrong) as we have both Adam Smith and Zeki Fryers ahead of him as RB and LB (Byrne's best positions), and if Swindon get promoted he gets to play in the Championship.

I would be very disappointed if we sold Massimo Luongo though - think he could be a great replacement for Scott Parker in a year or two. If Swindon got promoted, maybe a loan until Christmas there and then a PL loan for 6 months might be a decent compromise, but sale....noooooooo !

Only a year left on his contract?

I suppose theres a decision to be made now whether we cash in or offer a new contract- depending on how we rate his chances of progressing or becoming more valuable

Also a decision for him to make if he wants to sign a new contract or move on and get first team football

Best info I have is that his current contract expires bin 2014 (but that may be out of date info - the club are not good at giving out such info) but I would hope that we have either already extended his contract or do so shortly.

However for siome reason Spurs (and other PL sides) do seem to let development players contracts run down to short lengths - eg Adam Smith's contract was extended for 3 years in this January when it was due toi run out this siummer - perhaps because it is felt that they are protected by FIFA regulations who require a development fee be paid for u23 players even when out of contract.

Based upon current performances I would be renewing his contract asap together with lining up the best loan deal I could find fir him - he does look like a player capable of replacing Parker when he hangs up his boots in a year or so time.

Luongo made 11 appearances for ipswich including 6 starts in the Championship and 2 starts in League Cup, and feedback from Ipswich fans was very positive before Ipswich decided they needed more experience in the side, broufght in more experienced loanees and Luongo returned to Spurs.

Tricky one, imo he could probably play lower PL without any problems but might also benefit from playing regularly in Championsip - also not sure if a lower PL side would take him having only played a few Championship games.

Think I would try to get a PL loan (after a preeseason playing with first team) but not be too upset if he played for a Championship side until Christmas and then played in PL - I think technicaly he's definitely capable of holding his own.

I hope you're right, I think Championship is the best we can hope for next year - he just doesn't have the game time experience a premier league club will require. I reckon he'll star in the Championship and be ready for squad duties the following season.

I probably have more confidence in him making the step up from the youth team than just about anyone else, fingers crossed.

Hopefully Nathan continues to excel for them now he has secured a permanent deal, I prefer him to Adam Smith - a much more complete defender.

Luongo recently said he was looking for a Championship loan/transfer next season, so unless they win the Play-offs I don't see this happening.

A talented individual who I would like to see make it at Spurs but probably has to leave for his own career.

It wouldn't surprise me to see him lining up regularly in the Prem in a few years, just not in our shirt. But I am sure Levy will sort out an incentive based deal which works out for everyone.

Luongo's just scored a brilliant goal in the playoff semi-final. Curled it into the bottom corner from the edge of the area.

Was just going to post this. I want him in the squad over Livermore next season tbh.

Luongo just scored a nice goal

GOAL Swindon 1-0 Brentford - Massimo Luongo
Pick that one out. Massimo Luongo picks up the ball 25 yards from goal and places a superb finish beyond Brentford goalkeeper Simon Moore. Advantage Swindon.

Swindon Town FC @Official_STFC
70 - Luongo breaks the deadlock with a superbly placed effort that finds the corner of the Town End net!

Sound like everyone agreed - great goal in a very important match

Swindon Town FC @Official_STFC
90 - Luongo brings a ball down on his chest and fires over the bar

and almost a second one !

Are the pitches smaller at this level or something? Seems like literally nobody has any time on the ball and there is no space. Such low quality seems like a Sunday league game. I'm struggling to see the benefit of loaning players to league 1 if this is any indication of the standard.

I've not watched a lot of League One but I guess it being a play-off semi final contributes to that a bit. Harsh on Brentford though, should have had a blatant penalty to go 4-2 up with 15 to go.

Looked like a bit of a Beckham at France '98. Didn't do a lot. Second yellow seemed harsh.
