Kovacic has ability and is dynamic. I believe he could add to the team but in equal measure he could disrupt it. How people can watch him and not realize he has many of the same 'flaws' that Barkley is presently, and Mousa previously, charged with I can't understand. In many of the games I have seen him (and I do watch RM and Barca most weekend when it doesn't conflict with Spurs, which it mostly doesn't because La Liga games are late) he holds the ball too long and often doesn't play the easy/smartest pass. He plays like a young player trying to show his ability instead of playing simple and adding to the team. That said, he does have ability and is intriguing but at present he is no Mousa or Modric replacement.

It's pretty obvious that we are not going to compete for the 'complete' type players that tick all the boxes. I'd be absolutely delighted to sign this guy or Mahrez this window.

Have I missed something as I can't see any ITK regarding this player of whom it is unlikely we would ever sign.

Fair enough, all opinions and I respect yours. What I would say is where do you come down on Barkley? My point was the hypocrisy and inconsistent logic of people awed by names and not actual performance. And as far as Kovacic and Mahrez I would be fine with one and 'sissoko'd' about the other.

Really am on the fence with that one but if Poch thinks he's seen something in him I'd like to see him get his man.

Poch seems to work well with young English players, he has improved so many since he came to England, Shaw, Rodriguez, Rose, Walker, Kane and brought through Ali, Winks, Dier. There are too many for it to be a coincidence. It's ckearly something mentally he does, who knows but if Barkley (who I find really frustrating at times) I back Pochs choice.

Could anyone imagine us going for a 2 year loan??

Hear me out. Rumours are RM want a buy back option, which we'd never agree to. An injury to Dembele leaves us reasonably exposed for depth. We know we have Onomah and a couple of others further down the pipeline but they aren't ready yet. A loan gets Kovacic in the shop window. It'd give us an immediate back up and buys Onomah and co time, we could even send Onomah out on loan to get real game time.

New press reports on this. Would not say no, he could play with any of Dembele, Wanyama, Dier or even Winks and is also useful as an AM. Not sure how feasible this one is but would be a very good signing if we could get him.

Daily Star brought this up again today and included no new information but did have this whopper of a quote:

Tottenham’s transfer plans have been derailed by Manchester City signing Kyle Walker.

However, they are still keen to reinforce a squad which finished second last season.

So I'm going to go ahead and personally say this article is just click hunting. No new regarding Kovacic and Spurs other than what they said 5 days ago and a couple other tossed around news from other sites.

Seriously talented player who in my view is way ahead of the likes of Barkley and as you say can slot in anywhere in the midfield and would be a fantastic cover for Eriksen. Doesn't mind doing the hard work so would have thought a poch type player. Probably have to pay real money for him though!

not sure any plans have been derailed by a player who they knew was leaving actually leaving. Daily Star though, so what do you expect. Facts?! Insight?! nah.

Kovacic is the one big signing I'd like us to make. We know Dembele struggles with a heavy schedule and that we lacked squad depth with the number of games we played last year. Kovacic can cover a few positions, has plenty of big game experience and puts in a shift when he plays. I think we need some rotation options in midfield and he'd be ideal. Winks and Onomah would still be in the frame. Kovacic just has that extra bit of quality we seem to miss on occasions.

With Madrid already shipping out Morata, Rodriguez and Danilo, do you not think that there is less likelihood them looking to move on Kovacic

They bought Dani Ceballos from Betis, a centre mid. Losing Morata and Danilo are irrelevant to Kovacic's future. I'd assume Asencio takes Morata's spot and they look light one RB.

They still have Modric, Kroos, Isco, Casemiro and then younger players Ceballos and Marcos Llorente (I don't know this player..) all looking for a place in the middle of their formation. However they do it. Still possible they will let Kovacic go.

I was using this for positions: https://www.transfermarkt.com/real-madrid/kadernachposition/verein/418
