Would be strange if he was disappointed with playtime at Madrid and joined City to compete with Silva/De Bruyne/Gundogan not to mention won't Bernardo Silva be put into more of a midfield role with Mahrez joining?

Ridiculous the list I just named off with three of those being backup players.

Not to mention I bet he isn't on huge wages at Madrid so I don't think he would be looking at a pay decrease if coming to Spurs.

They did just miss out on a player to Chelsea so they do seem to have their limits on fees.

No way we would get involved at £80m though.

they pretend they to- you can see they've briefed the BBC for the latter's take on Jorginho going to Chelsea instead. Yeah, people of real principle, City- £60m for Mahrez instead of £75M? This time Leicester have time to secure a replacement.

What about 80+?
I'd rather spend that on a top quality CM than a wing forward so yeah, I'd probably rather spend 80 on Kovacic than getting Martial and Andre Gomes for example. I don't think we're getting Martial regardless.

For the record I can't see Madrid demanding that fee from us. Madrid just don't have any history of being unreasonable sellers, the Ronaldo deal is just weird from Juventus sake but whatever. They sold freakin James for a 2 year loan and then 40mil. Don't see why Kovacic would be the one player they stand their ground on.

Kovacic would be a huge signing. I'd be shocked to see us spend that much on one player, it just isn't our business model

Our transfer business model has long since gone out of date, in today’s market if you want a proven player you have to put up or shut up ,low balling is a sure way of pissing of the selling club and encourages them to look elsewhere for a buyer. However when we are selling we expect to get our asking price met and don’t accept low balling from other clubs ie Toby. I was criticised for questioning our lack of signings at the start of the window and reminded of how long it was until the start of pre season training, now it has started a week ago and still no additions made, the World Cup is no excuse, other clubs have been able to be active while it has been ongoing. Goalposts moving can be the only explanation or maybe it is agent activity !

Kovacic is a bit part player at Madrid.. Dembele is running out of legs to be a regular starter.

Perhaps there is scope to offer Madrid Dembele as part of a deal to sign Kovacic..

If only transfers worked out like that!

Unfortunately Real would have no interest in Dembele.

Madrid are having their biggest shuffle in like 10 years. There are no bit part players anymore, anyone there could be Loptegui’s favorite. Don’t see him leaving the window unless he is flat out told he won’t start.

Surely they have to move someone though. Kovacic has already come out and say he would like to leave, idk why they would demand he stay if they already have Kroos, Modric, Isco, Ceballos and Asensio who all can operate in that position.

Ceballos has looked poor and Isco and Asensio are not going to start lining up in deep midfield. Noone even knows what formation they will be playing, much less how the players will fit into it. If Lopty tells Kovacic he has a chance to start I think he will give it six months and see if it works out.

Most likely true, but I'm just trying to remain optimistic about this potential deal as I think it would be a great acquisition.

Well good luck! I try not to dream about possible transfers anymore, too great a chance they blow up even when we are heavily linked (Moutinho, Willian, Oscar, Damiao, etc etc) but when the links aren’t really there the odds seem pretty well stacked against.

I think people have gone a bit too far and think Kovacic is a lot better than he is.

He’s a good player to be fair, but people have now hyped him to world class levels which he is not.

This may have been aimed towards me, I don't think he's world class. He certainly hasn't proved that yet, but for me he's exactly the skill set we need and has the potential to become a top class CM in world football.

I agree and people talking about buying him for 60m+ is insane... but when you think about our situation we're in we have to buy a creative midfielder to replace dembele.

I cannot watch another game with Dier and Wanyama operating in midfield, it's painful.

Domt know if Poch is thinking about dropping Eriksen or Dele back into the central midfield role but defensively they're a liability...
