God I love Modric. I was teaching my 5 year old about the role of a midfielder tonight whilst watching that genius. Wow what a role model.

Just saying.

I would love Kovacic, he could become the next Luka.. But wow, I’d still take the real Luka, he was just frickin class A tonight, genius and a fabulous goal. He’d still be an ace signing for us, doesn’t look or play any older than when he left.

He's a genius midfielder. Such a shame that we not only failed to keep hold of him, but that we couldn't win anything while he was here.

Same goes for Bale. The fact that they played in the same team makes it worse if anything.

Ali Gold has said that as far as he knows Spurs have no interest in Kovacic. He gets solid info.

We all know that he makes a team tick with his ball retention, movement, & intelligent passing but what a defensive performance, even diving numerous times to cut out passes.

In fact, the whole team was tenacious defensively.

Players in the mould of Pirlo and Modric have that natural intelligence to pull the strings - that can not be teached, it's a gift

I really like Kovacic but i wouldn't compare him to those two.

If Kovacic is determined to leave... #RealMadrid have a replacement lined up. A man Lopetegui has long been a fan of.

Kovacic looked good when he came on last night but then I reckon I would've looked half decent against that Argentine defence.

Kovacic needs to go somewhere where he can get regular football, think he has good potential to get to the same level as Rakitic and Modric or close to that level, they have such a great midfield Croatia.

The two times I have seen Rakitic come on in this world cup he has played as a wide attacking midlfielder… wouldn't we be looking for him to be a ball winning playmaker in the middle of the pitch? Brozovic was excellent in that role and I'm sure we could get him at a far better price and he starts there ahead of Kovacic for his country!.

The little I've seen of Kovacic I'd say he is more of an Ali/Eriksen hybrid. Definitely not a Dembele Modric type.

Kovacic is honest in MARCA: "I want to play more and the best thing is to leave Madrid"

Matteo Kovacic, since the happy concentration of Croatia in St. Petersburg, is sincere in MARCA. The Croatian player has given many turns to his decision, but believes that the time has come to leave the Real: "I want to play more and the best thing is to leave Madrid".

There is only one reason for Kovacic's decision and that is to have more minutes on the other side: "I love football and being on the turf, I want the opportunity to be a starter on another team, if I do not play ... I'm not happy" .

The Balkan midfielder, as he tells in the MARCA newspaper on Saturday to Juan Ignacio García-Ochoa , is convinced of his departure. Kovacic is clear and it seems that neither Lopetegui will change his mind.

Mateo has been very happy in Madrid, but he wants to play to be even more so. At the Bernabéu they think that Croatia's 8 is a future player, but he is in a hurry. The interview in its entirety and exclusively, in your MARCA diary this Saturday.
