That may be - but then that begs the question - why?

Its easy to say "he is out of our price range", its harder to understand "We don't like him for footballing reasons". Not saying that could not be the case - but I have not seen the argument put forth that he would not be a good fit.

Eh, Poch seems to heavily prioritize getting players with certain personalities that will fit into his system (aka crazy work ethic) and fit in with the rest of the squad. Personality happens to be one of the things that is incredibly tough to speculate on, not like anyone in here knows Mateo Kovacic on a personal level and unless the player does loads of interviews it's hard to figure out as an outsider. If Poch has come to the conclusion, through whatever means, that Kovacic isn't a good fit then I highly doubt we go for him.
