Dortmund fans really don't rate him. Had a lot of promise but has apparently been shite for a while.

I wouldn't say shite.... he just hasn't been Mats Hummels and that's who they thought, or they hoped they were getting - which is ridiculous.

Anyway, still a young German international with plenty of big game experience. I wanted him years ago when he left Freiberg and I would still take him in a heartbeat if he was available.

Tall, strong, skillful and versatile. He's had a set back, but there's a lot to work with there for Pochettino - still only 23 y.o.
I'd be all for it. We don't have comparable finances to our top 6 rivals and must find value where others doesn't.

23 yr old. Great youth prospect who's gone a bit backwards. Full german international. Typical Poch signing.

Thread reads a little like When we were linked to Marc Bartra. A lot of people felt he wasn't going to take the next step, but he went to Dortmund and has looked good overall.

There's obviously precedence for younger players going elsewhere and taking the next step in their development when it feels like they may have stagnated. The thing that has to worry you about Ginter is that it feels like if you can't be developed at Dortmund then you're likely not going to develop elsewhere.

Mauricio Pochettino was interested in Ginter last summer and the Tottenham manager admires him for his tactical flexibility and comfort on the ball. Pochettino has spoken on numerous occasions about how Tottenham must be smart in the transfer market, as they cannot compete in financial terms with their rivals at the top of the Premier League, and Ginter could turn out to be a value signing.

I watched the Denmark vs Germany game.

He played an unbelievable pass to Sandro Wagner in the first half, setting up a clear chance. Ball-playing defender?

I asked some Dortmund fans about Ginter on another forum and here's what they've said so far:

'He's nice on the ball, versatile, and fairly young. He can play DM, CB, and RB. However, he's a liability defensively, particularly at CB, where he's likely been underdeveloped over his BVB career given that he's been used sporadically and all over the place. If I may make a parallel, he's essentially the German version of John Stones, with all the positives and negatives that entails.'

'John Stones is more talented than Mats Ginter.

However, I'd gladly let them believe what they want so they take him off our hands for more than 15M.'

I can absolutely see us going for a player in the Ginter (or Veltman) mould. A rotation option at CB who can also compete with Trippier when needed, but without getting in the way of KWP's progression. Almost like a right-sided version of what I expect we'll be doing with Davies and Sessegnon if that comes off.

He would bridge the gap nicely between Walker and KWP, and if KWP were to make the step up and establish himself as a genuine first-team calibre player there would still be a place in the squad for him to play CB/DM. It makes a lot of sense.

Or both if walker and wimmer both leave can also see CCV going out on loan next season .
