I don't know about you, but I don't speak Dutch and I certainly can't read it, but what I make of that is that little gobshite Kluivert who refused to join us last season when we signed his team mate Sanchez (even though his club sold him to us as part of the same deal) has been having words with De Ligt about not joining us either.

.

So what is a tin of SPAM supposed to mean?

Why he'd want to go to City when they've already got Kompany, Otamendi, Laporte and Stones I'm not sure. Here realistically he'd be alongside Davinson in the pecking order just after Jan, presumably.

(Working on the basis that Toby is leaving)

But he's already said he doesn't want the money. He said he will use his brain and thinks he already gets a good wage

True. But say we offer 80k per week and City offer 160k per week. He could get a career ending injury at anytime. He would be a fool not to consider it.

Probably reckons that by the end of the season he'd be above Otemendi and Stones on merit and have a few medals and trophies to show for it.

I love the part of threads where we start injecting our own logic into a player's rumored situation and then make a judgment on them for using the logic we manufactured out of thin air. Quality stuff gents.

and joining a title winning football club, favourites to win it next season with genuine aspirations to win the CL. Plus working with the best coach in the world who has proven track record of improving players. We can't even use the giving youth a chance card as Pep has been doing that too, possibly even more than Poch. Kompany is constantly injured, Otamendi is 30 and Stones hasn't really done it for Pep it seems. He'd fancy his chances of being first team over next 2 years.

Not being funny but even if wages were the same who in their right mind would choose us over them.

With Toby leaving he'll have ample opportunity for minutes and to establish himself in the XI the same way he would at City. Add a player of his caliber in the defense against Juve and there's a chance Tottenham make it to the same stage City did in UCL (debatable, but a selling point to emphasize his value and the comparative aspirations of the club). And the most recent young player given a serious chance in the side plays the same position as him and was his former teammate, something City have no comparison for.

The other thing Tottenham have over the other top clubs is the opportunity to do it first for the club in the PL. Depends on how MdL values that, but there's something to be said for it meaning more for the club and for where the club is in its history. Which can be appealing for some early in their career.

I agree that it's pretty impossible to compete with them on paper, but we definitely have our own selling points and appeal. Depending on what he wants at this time in his career, it's certainly reasonable to think context helps our argument.

No one is saying we aren't tempting, they are saying that those that think you only choose city for money are frankly deluded.

This. People need to take their Spurs tinted glasses off. Not everyone who chooses a different club to Spurs or wants to leave us is just purely in it for the money.

It’s like the classic “that bird isn’t interested in me so she must be a lesbian” argument :D.

This is more relevant to Van Dijk

I have literally no idea what you mean - I've just been extremely unlucky in that almost every girl I've ever come on to has happened to be a lesbian, at that moment (possibly not before or after)

You're going to need a new comparison as I don't see this as valid

Our biggest advantage is the career development of our previous Ajax purchases. All have gone straight into the starting eleven and really developed.
However, if Pep gives him assurances he's straight in the first team then City will always be first choice.
