@heelspurs 15/16 was his first season, 16/17 was his second where he said in his second season he was "less so but you would get away with it".

Not sure where I was sensitive? Simply responded to someone who said it was a "fucking stupid scenario".
Was he as good in the second season as he was in the first? It's a matter of opinion but it is not deserving of a 'table pounding' statement like:

Alright, you clearly can't be reasonable if you don't think Toby was great in 16/17 either.

Toby's performance is a matter of opinion, and the strawman of whether he was or was not "great in 16/17" was never stated in his post. Only the point that he felt he was not as good as the first season...opinion. This is the last I have to say on the matter as it is the MDL thread not TA.

I can promise I'm not pounding any tables here at my desk. Regardless its just the same revisionist history BS we saw with Walker last summer...

Plus MDL is pretty much directly related to Toby's dealing so think its valid. Not to mention my post was about the both of them.

[@StandardSport] understands now Tottenham Hotspur have reignited their interest in AFC Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt with the central defender being lined up as a potential long-term replacement for Toby Alderweireld.

Well it is interesting that a 'big club' in Europe or at home hasn't signed him yet. I thought he'd be snapped up early in the transfer window

And there's the fact that Utd seem to want Maguire, Cahill or Toby, the door may indeed be open for us to pick up de Ligt

Think it would be a cracking signing tbh

Still expecting Utd to come in hard for Toby so hopefully deLigt is still firmly on the radar. I wouldn't be against a loan back either with Dier able to cover CB for a season. That would also circumvent the problem of having to shift a non HG player this window.

Was wondering about this guy yesterday. Heard nothing for a while now so assumed we had lost interest or it wasn't a viable deal. I suppose it depends what's happening with Toby.

Pretty sure they haven’t said this. Where’s it come from?

It still means dealing with Raiola, which always makes a deal more expensive.

If we assume Ajax will not accept less than our fee for Davinson, c£42m, and then add in Raiola's cut, which could be 20-25%, ie another £10m or so, that's a huge fee for a CB who won't be 19 until next month. And since Davinson is more pure defender whereas de Ligt is potentially the best ball playing CB of his generation, Ajax are likely to want a higher fee.

But some things have changed since our interest at the beginning of the window. For instance, Raiola tarted de Ligt out to Juventus, but now they've signed Ronaldo and his crazy salary, presumably they would be less able to pay that much for a CB.

Also, whilst Jose wants a CB, I don't think he wants an 18-year-old ball-playing CB who, like all young defenders, is still learning his trade. He wants an experienced defender like Toby or Maguire. It is Year Three at manure for Mourinho, with all that implies.

Shitty and Bayern are still probably our major competitors for de Ligt. We could probably match any Bayern offer, but Pep & his backers could outbid us if they want the player.

Of course the wildcard is that Raiola hates Pep because of the Zlatan history, so you never know....

I'm guessing it's from here - https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/tottenham-transfer-shortlist-the-players-mauricio-pochettino-wants-before-the-august-deadline-a3898236.html

It doesn't really say we've reignited our interest though.
Standard said:
With Toby Alderweireld linked with a possible exit, another Ajax academy graduate, Matthijs de Ligt, could be in line to replace him.

The 19-year-old has been a mainstay in the Dutch giants' defence but any move could be matched by a number of Europe's biggest clubs such as Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

Without a Daily ITK thread, worth noting the Trix's Deja Vu comment has ruled out ex players returning (in the bale thread)

therefore it would seem the most likely re-occurrence is signing a centre back from Ajax, in my humble opinion.

A few of the rags are reporting that Mourinho is still v keen on Toby, which would add to the revamp in our potential interest.

I agree, with the media spouting off on Mourinho throwing his toys out of the pram, due to a lack of signings from his five-man shortlist. It would not surprise me if we re-enter into a deal with Ajax for deLigt - especially if we are expecting the Toby/Martial deal to go down to the wire and ManUTD pushing heavily for Toby.

That way, if we sell Toby and don't get Martial in return we have a CB lined up. If we do manage to pull off a swap deal with MArtial coming our way then we are in a great position. We didn't sign Sanchez from Ajax till eight days before the end of last years TW closure - hence the link to the deja vu comments.

Im sure the Deja Vu comment is purely a we have seen this all before comment and nothing is in it. At this point people are desperate for any news and clutching at straws.

PS, there may even be a bit of Deja vu if we're lucky, well almost. ;)

Doesn't sound much like "we've seen this all before"

My first impression was that it could be an nth hour unexpected signing from Real Madrid. Kovacic?

He or De Ligt would be awesome imo

It could be anyone. There's a lot of decent players about. I was only pointing out that I doubt Trix would word it like that if he was saying that it would just be "same old spurs"

Might be nothing, but @tehTrunk just said he's heard "De Ligt likely happening".

He knows a few journos etc. with Spurs connections from his work on the Rule The Roost podcast.
