Didn’t we have to wait for Ajax to sign their replacement for vertonghen before the transfer went through when Jan signed. Let’s hope it’s the same again.

Also, getting another centreback in before letting one go will be so much better than the Walker clusterfuck last summer, when we didn’t look like we knew who we wanted to replace him.

I think our biggest advantage is that we have been working on this deal for some time, never underestimate the power of going with the flow.
That and we aren't in Manchester of course.

From what the ITK's were saying we were always going for Aurier and were waiting on his legal situation to get cleared up. If anything it was an example of the club staying with it's number one target which I am all for. Given that the season starts after the window closes I'm sure we will be perfectly fine.

Besides we will be counting on the money from any Toby deal to finance this move I would have thought.

I can't help but think our Dutch connections give us an edge in this one.
Send Davids and VDV over to have a word.

FWIW, on Ajax forums they're saying Man City is favorite to sign him (i.e. they made an astronomical offer) :(

The thing which worries me about missing de ligt is that our back up CB targets aren't any speical or read to play for a club like us(Jonathan tah for example).

Will be too hard for him to turn city down. He would back himself to be a city regular in 2 years

don't know if this was posted - but this was De Ligt against Portugal in March:

Dutch won 3-0, De Ligt with 2 assists.

The way he’s playing in this video almost makes me wonder if Poch see’s him as a second Dier? I.e he can play in a back 2, back 3 between Jan and Davinson, and also provide cover for Dier in the flexible DM role. Could explain the rumours of Victor being let go. It would still leave us a little light overall but with the players we’re linked to it feels like either Eriksen, Alli or both may end up playing deeper next year, at least in some games.

Yeah, but he said it himself that he wants to play regularly. I dont think he'll get that at City, which could be a major reason why he doesnt go there.

we can offer him regular first team football immediately if he joins, that's our only advantage over citeh

Can we though? He's not getting in over Vertonghen or Sanchez. I think he comes in and plays against lower level sides and in cup games but he's not stepping in and we're moving straight back to 3atb. Especially as we're talking about bringing in additional midfield and attacking options.

we had itk that poch wants to play a back 3 so i think if de ligt joins us he would start with jan and sanchez, just like sanchez last year
we need a dembele replacement and an eriksen backup/rotational option regardless of us playing 2 or 3 at the back
