They certainly won’t. Bigger clubs in for him, as well as us( which has been ongoing since we signed Sanchez

thanks herc. All along i've held on the belief that the ajax connection plus jan/christian and davinson gives us a slight edge, assuming we're not miles away from the top offers on cost and wages. given he's not at the world cup, everything ties in with him (optimistically) being our first signing, presumably in the next fortnight, especially if not dependent on toby going (if indeed he does)

I think the opposite. I think the number and quality of the teams in for him lines everything up with this being a protracted saga dragging on until one of the teams (or us) decides it is best to move on to another target or just agrees to fork over an ungodly sum of money (probably not us) to finish the deal and put everyone else out of the picture.

I can't imagine our wage valuation will be off City's all that much honestly. Now they can go into stupid money if they want but Jorginho's rumored wage of 80k/week is about what we would offer I would imagine when we're talking about a starting CM.

I'm assuming Barca is trying to decide between he or Lenglet? Don't think they've been impressed with Yerry Mina thus far. Definitely think we got the best of the Colombian duo.

Well ours did cost 4x as much haha. Don’t think Mina was ever compared to Sanchez in potential was he? Mina is also older.

We really don't.. Sanchez has a good quality in his bravery..he'll throw his body in the way of blocking a shot..however relies on his pace to much..positionally dreadful doesn't anticipate danger.. De Ligt already reads the game better & has better defensive instincts.. Personally think he would better staying at Ajax or moving to Germany than moving to England.. Young players often have dips in form & english fans are unforgiven..in other countries fans accept young players will have consistently problems..
Now if De Ligt is going to be sold we'd have to throw our hat in the ring..one of the most natural defenders I've seen in years.. the only other young defender I'd rate higher is skrinniar at Inter but he's 22 &would cost a fortune & in time De ligt will surpass him.. I believe he's a once in a generation defender
You seem to know as much about this player as any spurs player! How many times have you seen this lad play to know so much about him, it’s like you have been scouting him for a long time!

it's weird how people pretend to be scouting experts isn't it? have you seen the start of the Alderweireld thread where all the experts were saying he had no pace and wouldn't be an upgrade on Fazio? this feels like someone's read a few bits on the internet and cobbled it together to present it as a fact as I've definitely read similar before.

Well, if Man City want him then we’ve got no chance. Might as well give up and go for our second choice. No point wasting our time then ending up with the fifth choice because that’s all that’s available. (Ie. What usually seems to happen).

who would our second choice be? based on previous itk and links could it be Tah or Mawson, or have i missed someone?

I'm sure I remember city wanting Eriksen the year before we got him and him insisting he didn't want to be playing a bit part so he waited for the right team. I think a lot of these Alax products have that mentality so maybe De Ligt will choose football over money too.

At least we have seen a lot of Mawson, we know what he can offer. And to my mind, it ain’t half bad. I think he is another “ good young prospect” and with good coaching could become a great defender. But then again who knows! They are all young, look and Bentley, Huddleston, Carroll, they all look like the next best thing when they are young, so it is just to hard to tell. Well I take some of that back, there were some, Ronaldo, Messi, Neymar, all very very good and proving themselves at a very young age. Point is it’s a crap shoot. So for me I don’t want to risk that kind of money on De Ligt, or Sessinon or any young star they are going to be looking for 75mil on. I would pay descent money and invest time and effort into a mawson, someone we can afford and I think is a good young prospect, but if he turns out to be another David Bentley, we haven’t pissed away a fortune. Let’s leave that to the City, United and Chelski’s of this world.

If we don’t get De Ligt I’d rather just move Dier back and develop Foyth rather than pay over the odds for a mid table tryer
