If he has a great world cup there could be twice as many teams interested in him though. At the moment Hercules has mentioned United, Barcelona and one other. By the end of the tournament PSG, City and Bayern might be interested as well which would drive up the price and make it less likely that one of the original three teams would sign him. Surely it's better to get him early and risk an injury than risk not signing him at all?

Anyway we both agree that it's unlikely that he'll be sold before the tournament so I guess the reason isn't really important.

Any interested parties will want to see a player emerge unscathed from the World Cup as well.

Some spurs based journo Marc Benamram saying we're in for a dutch player..could it be Kluivert?
Just because I am feisty - lets assume that the tweet, in which says he has "no name" is about Kluivert - WTF would you put that in this thread?

Its a shite rumour on a shite tweet. It does not belong anywhere, let alone a thread about de Ligt...

Does the signing of Matthias indicate the boss wanting to go back to 3 central defenders ?

Update: We have now found a little shit. Dov's latest post from hertyid implies we are very much in for him and he will be expensive. So now we know sort of what we already knew but from a different source so there's that.

So what does in for him mean exactly? How long do we need to be in form him/monitoring before we actually make a bid, etc? Still trying to figure out how all this stuff actually works but it seems like its clear he's an obvious target and a player we want so why not start the negotiations? I do understand the Toby stuff probably throws a wrench in all of this and effects our negotiating power on both sides of this deal.

From what I gathered in a post by Trix a while back, an actual bid isn't usually tabled until you're fairly certain it will be accepted. Not sure why.

It's all gone quiet around him in the press -- whether it be links with us, Barcelona or Man City. No real action in media for 2 weeks now.

My guess is that we have let Ajax, or an agent acting on behalf of, and De Ligt's representatives know we are interested in a possible deal and have been provided broad figures required to get it done but have not yet bid as we are working out potential costs on other deals, or Levy and co think the price might drop and are waiting to see if it does. As I understand it unless you are willing to pay more up front it often takes a long time to come up with an amortized payment bid that matches the required figures and is accepted by the club.
