Well, the Bayern situation is really gonna throw this for a loop with our hopes for this kid. Bayern CEO publicly saying they will listen to bids for Boateng, I'd imagine this guy will be top of Bayerns list and of course Bayern would be a more attractive destination than Spurs unfortunately..
Well there you have it. I guess this is all done and dusted then.

Someone close the thread. Turn out the de ligts on your way out.

Surely there's a Bundesliga team they can ruthlessly rip a top CB from in standard fashion?

Big shout to say they'd break their transfer record for De Ligt, as good as he is...

Bayern are masters of getting players to force their way to Bayern though so they always get great deals. There's no coincidence they have one of the best squads in the world and don't spend crazy money like some of these other clubs.

Bayern may have their appeal, but the same does not apply to the german Bundesliga. A one-horse race if ever there was one... Serie A or the Premier League would be much better for developing and maturing as a defender. De Ligt will take this into account when making his decision.

Care to share some more reasoning? I'm not sure I follow.. Bayern is pretty much the consensus what, third best club in the world? He would be able to play tons of games for them and be in a side that is favored to make the champions league semi finals basically every year. Why would he choose Spurs over Bayern if we could offer the same role? Be the understudy to Vertonghen/Hummels future starter next to Sanchez/Sule, because the league is better at this point in time? This is all pretty cyclical, early 2000's Serie A was biggest, then the Premier league then Bundesliga now La Liga has the best clubs, in de Ligts career the Bundesliga could easily get back on top.

A matter of opinion mostly. You think Bayern are the ants pants - and they do have a lot going for them.
I however think they also resemble a giant cactus - sucking German football dry and preventing anything else from flourishing in their shade. They lure the competition's best players over, often on free transfers, just to eliminate them as a rival force. They did that Dortmund, Schalke, Stuttgart...
6 league titles on the trot underline their hegemony, and there's no end in sight. I therefore certainly don't subscribe to your view that the Bundesliga is up there with the best in the business.

Paradoxically, this total domination of the league will likely prevent them from being succesful in europe. Since they win all league games at a canter, they will find it more and more difficult to raise their game when playing under pressure in the latter stages of the Champions League.

If you apply this assessment to the case of Matthijs de Ligt and the next step in his nascent career, then you could argue that he would be much better off coming to the Premier League, where he will be put to the test on a weekly basis, as opposed to going to Bayern, where he'll win most games playing on auto-pilot, against players who haven't got the skills or strengths to make his life even remotely difficult.
If he's serious about becoming a world class centre half, it should be obvious where he needs to be heading...

Sule is on his way to being a world class CB. I just don't see how going to Bayern Munich could be a bad thing. I understand that they're bad for the Bundesliga and what has happened over there the last several years but I believe the last 3 champions leagues they've been knocked out by Madrid the of course winners of each of those years. They're realistically probably the second best team in the world the last 3 years.

I said it before about Juve but Bayern is even more so.

There record transfer is what? 35 million? Do you really think they’re going to break that record and then some for an 18 year old CB? When they’ve got an aging attack and Lewandowski is trying to force a move away?

I don’t think so.

Bayern are masters of poaching their own league on the cheap, just like Juve are. I’d be gobsmacked if de Ligt was sold to either this year.

Serie A has not been the best in Europe at any point this century.
