Methinks we should stay away from signing Dutch players for the time being. The national team is no good and the last Dutch player we signed flopped badly.

I take one look at the shenanigans around Raiola and Pogba, and think de Ligt made a huge mistake in hiring Raiola as his agent.

He didn't need a super agent to get a move away from Ajax. But hiring Raiola added a huge agent's cut, which could be an extra £15-20 million on the deal.

IIRC with Davinson Sanchez, we were dealing with Colombian agents and agreeing the personal terms went smoothly.

Levy must be wondering even if he did manage to get de Ligt out of Amsterdam, how many seasons would it be before Raiola decided his client should move to another club?

Not sure if this has already been posted but De Ligt due to being 18 would count as an underage player in our Champions League quota until he is 21, and then be classified as a home trained player as he will be have training with us for 3 years between the age of 15-21.

Surely makes signing him more appealing

This surely isn’t true if he’s already 18? Won’t have been with us for 3 years before he turns 21, which I thought was the rule?

Sorry, was certain I had posted this in the De Ligt thread initially.

I'm pretty sure Dele was 21 last year and not part of our senior squad quota. I think if your 21 your qualified at a youth player. De Ligt turns 19 on 12th August I believe so if we get him in before his 19th birthday I think the three years until he turns 22 will see us over the line.

Can anyone 100% confirm this? I'm hoping it's true and pretty sure it is having seen it online elsewhere and checked it under the rules for squad submissions. Just thought I'd post it to make you all aware or if anyone knows a little more about if it's correct or not

It may be correct, but only if the 2020/21 Premier League season starts before his 21st birthday - ie before 12/08/2020. The below is from Article 43 of the UEFA Champions League Regulations:

A "club-trained player" is a player who, between the age of 15 (or the start of the season during which he turns 15) and 21 (or the end of the season during which he turns 21), and irrespective of his nationality and age, has been registered with his current club for a period, continuous or not, of three entire seasons (i.e. a period starting with the first official match of the relevant national championship and ending with the last official match of that relevant national championship) or of 36 months.

Not true. I believe a player has to be at the club for two years before he can count as an U21.

ETA - which is why we could not register Foyth last spring, after Lamela came back.

Yep we haven’t been linked to him but I’ve been saying for awhile now that no one should be interested in Robert Lewandowski. Terrible national team and Rasiak was a huge kick in the nuts.

We should stay away from Martial and Pavard then because Sissoko hasn’t been great...
Not agreeing one way or the other, but he did mention that their national team had been shite also. Not quite the same with France if you're going to use that argument....

toward the end of his first spell at Ajax - Blind transitioned from playing at the back to playing in the middle of the park. Often sitting between the defence and midfield and acting as a link between the two.

if anything, I would see the move as a potential replacement for Frenkie De Jong, not de Ligt.

hoping I'm wrong and we get de Ligt though.... (y)

I'm having a particularly annoyed day w/ Spurs - this guy is great example of great talent, targeted early by club, aware of high fee and still pursued this summer only to have gone quiet & looking unlikely. I will be the first to buy a De Ligt shirt if this deal comes off this summer to put my money where my mouth is but I just don't get it. How are we so unable to make things easy for ourselves while other clubs seem to? Liverpool for example, cant buy Keita last year so agree to (i think full buyout clause) and he arrives gift wrapped on first eligible day the next year. How do we seem so optimistic and then end up shocked by how difficult a deal is or pursue lesser options?

We should be all over a one year loan back deal. Take the 25 for Toby next year, let Davinson continue to grow between the Belgian duo, and have Jan's successor not sitting on the bench all year and continuing to grow at Ajax. Once again it just makes too much sense.

One word.

Raiola.

Couldn't agree more UNLESS Poch is absolutely done w/ Toby and doesnt want him around the club anymore, which could be the case. But a loan to purchase deal seems ideal either way, in my opinion.
