Mauricio Pochettino has been delighted with the response of the players after the first full week of pre-season training.

Good to see Jesus is helping with our coaching team. The amount of times I have sought Devine inspiration when watching Spurs!!

Oh no - he's only gone and used the 'P' word.

Jiggins, Ashton, Samuel and the morons will be mauling him before a ball is even kicked.

Johnny Foreigners and their damn philosophies...

Honestly can't remember if we usually get these sorts of updates in pre-season, but it's good that Poch (and the club) are taking it on themselves to communicate progress to the fans. It's something we seldom get right.

“It’s a difficult period for the players because we need to work hard but there has been a great atmosphere.

“It’s important for the players to get to know us and for us to get to know them and at the same time we’ve also started to introduce our philosophy and style into the group.

“The players have responded well and have trained hard every day.”

Sweet music.

Communication with the fans on injuries, training etc. has typically been atrocious, you're right.

They need to take a leaf out of city's book when it comes to connecting the club with the fans, they really know what they are doing.

I think half the problem is as well is that the videos etc they put out are usually a couple of minutes long and what sort of insight can you give the fans in that timeframe? Do they hold the good stuff back for people who subscribe to Spurs TV?

Nothing new to read from the first weeks training session under any new coach. Once he's separated the wheat from the chaff he can really get down to determining the twenty five players that he wants to put total faith in.

You can add me to the list (if I wasn't included already).
What is this secret philosophy he goes on about so much?
Why mention it at all, if he is not willing to expand?

If fans know the bigger picture, they may be more tolerant of short term failure.
I think this could have been one of AVB biggest mistakes - he never explained and so when it all fell apart he was totally open to the charge that he did not have a clue.

Where does it say "secret philosophy"?
It just mentions philosophy and style. Anyone who watched Southampton knows what it is.

There's actually a book written about AVB's philosophy.

As mentioned - Southampton last season told us what we need to know about Poch's philosophy. He's a Bielsa disciple who can translate that to the EPL.

If AVB's book is anything like his press conferences, that is not a book anyone in their right mind would seek out.

Pooch (as AVB) likes a high energy pressing game - we know that much.
And that is countered by teams sitting deep and hitting us on the break - we know that too.
3/4 of teams are more than happy with a chance of a point at WHL and bring the bus - I suspect teams played a more open game at St Mary's.
If the new philosophy is more of the same then that is cause for alarm.

Funnily enough Bielsa apparently loved to explain his thoughts on the game, and press conferences could go on for hours until everyone fully understood. Now that would be a fascinating change for the better.
